Gascoigne grunted, ripping his axe into its transformed mode. We walked through the dark tunnels of Hypogean Gaol, killing off a few stray beasts on our way.
Having a Hunter helping me is more convenient than I thought
where the dim lighting made it hard to navigate the entire area, Gascoigne easily avoid walking into any obstacles and reacted almost flawlessly to the beasts around him, as if he'd grew a set of eyes somewhere else on his body
Obviously that is not the case, as else he would't be a beast
"How can you still move around with that bandage covering your eyes?" I asked the lumbering man beside me, receiving a shrug in return
"Intuition, son. When you've been hunting in the dark for long enough you learn to not see with your eyes"
"Interesting. Maybe I should start wearing eye bandage of my own"
"You do that and you'll be waking up in the Hunter's dream in no time" He showed a bloody smile as his pistol once again rang out, hitting the beast in the chest
The sound of flesh being torn could be heard in the next moment as I suppressed the shiver running through my spine. The Hunter beside me had just casually tear a Maneater boar twice his size in half with barely any effort
It's a miracle how I still managed to defeat him in his beast form. At that time my quick thinking and the music box are the two thing keeping me from being torn asunder by his claw
We walked through the corpses littered around us. My Saw Clea er resting by my backside as I contemplated where I should begin
"So...what you mean is that the people I met are all inside that dark place"
"Yes"
"Your wife Viola, your partner Henryk, and Vicar Amelia in her human form. Not one of them affected by the frenzy outside"
He nodded again "We cannot feel hunger nor thirst, which means we're already dead. In that case, a connection with us to you may have been established and pulled us in upon our demise"
"You, sir hunter. Whatever your name is, possess the ability similar to the Hunter's dream. A successor of Gehrman's perhaps?" A shook of my head as he hummed in acknowedgement "An innate ability then? How strange"
My only response is to snap my Saw Cleaver to the side, where it hit the beast waiting in ambush. Gascoigne's axe followed suite, splitting its skull in two
"Thank you, but I'm afraid I have no clue about this development" I replied, wiping the blood off my blade "I am a foreigner who came to this city seeking Paleblood. I awake with no memory of my own saves for a select few that tells me of my mission in Yharnam"
"Speaking of which, what is Yharnam really?"
I am confused as to the true nature of this city. About it's...realness. No matter what the blood ministrator had told me, there's always this creeping suspicion in my mind that things are more than just a bad dream
Now with the experienced hunter by my side, I could finally lay that question to rest
"Some would call them a nightmare, but even the most knowledgable of us are not sure" Gascoigne admitted, accompanying me past the stairs "It's very much real. However, there are certain things in this city that blurs the boundary between reality and illusion. Entities that are outside of human comprehension resides in it, thus twisting Yharnam into the bloodied landscape you knew now"
"And the Hunt?"
"We've always been hunting, Good Hunter. That's what hunters do. It's a cycle that has neither an end nor a beginning. You should have known that from Eileen"
I grimly nodded. How many generations of Hunters have died on the night of the Hunt? Too many to tell. Yet there doesn't seems to be an end to this. Such thoughts are disturbing, and so I sought a way to lighten up the conversation with him
"Please, Leave me be... Don't Take me... Please... Oh, please, dear gods."
"Head up that stairs. I heard someone praying in the room" I pointed forward right to where I assume to be the general location of Adella. We both walked to the door and removed the blockade, as we did so the chanting inside got louder, possibly from fright
"Oh, merciful gods, help me..."
"Wait" I paused "If the woman is praying, there's a large chance she's from the Church. Maybe she'll feel more safe if you're the one doing it"
"Kid. You know I'm a ghost, right?"
"And?"
Gascoigne sighed, he walked into the room.
A moment later his a loud bellow could be heard echoing from inside
"OI, YOU BIIIIIIIIIIIIIIITTTTTTTTCHHHHHHH!"
The man's volume was enough to make the Cleric Beast's roar a small whine in a comparison
Yet there was silence afterward. Adella's still repeating that prayer of hers, seemingly not reacting to Gascoigne's yell in the slightest. My eyes narrowed as the old hunter walked back out from the room, only this time...he phased through the wall instead
"You see? I am a phantom" He explained "I am invisible to the naked eyes. Immaterial. Undetectable. None can perceive us aside from you and a few others with high Insights"
I sighed and started discarding my Hunter set. The Black Church Set was soon put on and I entered the room
The dark space was illuminated with a few candles. Vases lied everywhere. Some broken. Some not. But the dust gathering on them suggest that nobody has been here for a long time
Except for one
"Nun of the Church, why are you here?" As my footsteps get closer the woman tensed, before relaxing at my voice "On this night of the Hunt?"
She turned to face me with hope. Genuine hope, as I stood there wondering if this woman truly is the one who would try to kill me out of healousy when she's having this pure look in her eyes
"Ahh, by your garb... the Healing Church..." I averted my eyes at that "You've come to save me..Thank you, dear saint! I have no words to express my relief"
The game never detailed much of how Adella was supposed to act like. I hadn't really expected her to hug me by the garb and started crying on it. The feeling was made worse because she had actually mistaken me for a Saint of all things
"I was seized on the street by a hulking brute in the Cathedral Ward and locked up here. There were many others, but they've been taken away..." She shivered "And I've heard moans, echoes in the distance, ever since..." Another shiver as she buried her face into my church hunter outfit , tears soaking the fabric
"Looks like someone made the maiden cry"
Shut up, Gascoigne you. Just...shut up
I participate in the Hunt to find Paleblood. Not to suffer from you people's shenanigans in this place
"It's best if you remain here for the time" I told her "Beasts and other abominations are wandering outside. Once I've taken care of them you can go out and head to the Oedon Chapel"
She weakly nodded, too afraid to put up any protest. I head out the door and further down below the area.
My Hunter's torch flared up, revealing the silhouette of a hunched figure from a distance
<><><><><><><>
"What a shame, I had expected a challenge" Splitting his axe from the downed Witches of Hemwick Gascoigne voiced his discontent "These beasts were weak if nothing else"
Said the Hunter who repeatedly obliterated me on my first playthrough. As someone who had had decades of experience killing beasts, of course he would find them not as challenging even when these could easily drove a player up the wall with how frustrating they are
Still, having a Boss on your side is no doubt exciting. And easier
A smile graced my face as I crushed the eyefull monster under my foot
Much easier

The lamp lit up under my hand as I equipped myself with the Bold Hunter's Mark. An item that will revive me at the nearest spawn point upon dying, helpful and convenient in making sure I don't have to go through the whole experience once again
This time I called upon the Messengers of the Dream, commanding them to bring me the Saw Spear. As the band of spectral creatures rose out from the ground, I reached out a hand and accepted the weapon from them
Recently, their connection with me had seemingly grew to a point where I could partially interact with them and have them assist me. In time, I am sure they could even allow me to purchase items without returning to the Hunter's Dream
Quest Created
- Defeat Darkbeast Paarl with your partner Gascoigne
Reward: 14,000 [Blood Echoes]
"Is this the place?"
"I think" Was my reply, as I stared at the obvious boss arena underneath us and Paarl's silhouette lying in the shadow beyond it "Wide, open area are usually the swellings for larger and more dangerous beasts to reside in, if the Blood-starved Abomination and Cleric Bitch are any indication"
And then there's Gascoigne. But since the man's literally in front of me I'm not going to refer to him as "Father Gasoline" for the moment
I handed him several Molotov Cocktails, Blood Vials and Fire Papers. As perfectly a resemblance he has to his body before death, looks like Phantom only carry their outfits and weapons with them. Consumables are completely absent from their person
As he swiped his Axe, sparking fiery blaze across the blade of his weapon. I applied my own to the Saw Spear and load the Quicksilver bullets into my Repeating Pistol. With the preparation ready, we jumped from the ledge down toward the arena
I poised my spear so that it was aiming downward. The blade easily tore through the beast's hide as we landed, eliciting a roar of pain from it.
Arcs of lightning flared in all direction as Paarl awaken from its slumber. Before it can fullly charged its lightning Gascoigne intercepted with a charged attack to its front leg. We both jumped back as the claw swipe came in seconds later
My partner roared as he jumped up slammed down his axe on the Beast's head, causing it to stumble. Using the chance I dashed forward and stabbed my hand through its eyes in a blood Visceral Attack.
The beast roared and flicked me back at my partner, but I Quickened out of the way in time and slid across the ground
As soon as its initial attack had ceased we joined back in the fray. I subtlely used [Gravity Pull] to slow down its attack speed, creating larger windows for us to attack. As Gascoigne drenched the beast in oil I in hand threw the Molotov, casing him in fire
There's no real need to risk ourselves by approaching him. Hunter's Axe charged attack and the Saw Spear's poke are enough to dwindle down enough of its health for Paarl to enter stage two.
He started retreating back to the corner of the room to recharge his electricity. We pursue hot at his heels, pressing him on with simultaneous attacks that either stun or incapacitate him for a short amount of time, before proceeding with a Visceral
"This is what I call a fight!" Gascoigne roared as traces of a beast crossed his features. As the winding came at its zenith, he swung at the Darkbeast with force that would have easily turned a normal Church Giant into a pile of bloody meat
It was blown backward from the force of his axe. I stepped in and slashed upward, creating howling zephyr that tore through its skeletal frame and making them groaned against each other
Therewas a tremendous crash as the Beast hit the ground. As the smoke cleared, it laid there unmoving...until its limbs twitched...and sparkling electricity came to life again
"This is going to be a long fight" I sighed
"This is going to be a fun fight" Gascoigne grinned

It was quite soon before we killed him and entered back to where I previously were. Djura was waiting for me at the top of the building. As I climbed up he was there, in the exact position of looking out across the ledge
As I approached, he turned around. His form betrayed shock upon seeing me
"So you are taking a walk through the back of old Yharnam"
"Yes"
"Get held up by a Snatcher and entered Hypogean Gaol"
"Yes"
"Kill the Darkbeast by shooting him thirty six times"
"Thirty seven" I corrected, rolling my eyes "I don't see it as that big of a deal, any average Hunters can do it provided they have enough ammunition to spare"
Old Hunter Djura could only brought up a hand to rub his temple. The man was tired of his words. Did this Hunter not realized how many have killed in pursuit of the legendary Paarl whose skins were covered with heavenly thunder, only to die in the process?
Nevermind. Some things should be left unsaid. Thought the man as he raised the Stake Driver against the Lone Hunter
"You barged into this territory, killed the beasts here, murdered my apprentice in cold blood. Do you have anything to say for yourself?" He said emotionlessly. Djura is, without a doubt, quite pissed at me
"Do you think beasts are human?"
What?
The question confused him
"Yes. They are of course human. The beasts do not venture above, and mean no harm to anyone." Underneath the bandage, his eyes narrowed "If you still insist on hunting them, then I will hunt you first. You understand me?"
"I guess such an answer should be expected" I sighed "Have you ever assume that beasts, or the small sliver of humanity inside them, consider their deformed vessels to be undesirable?"
His aim weakened
Djura had had such thoughts before, but he never dwell much on them. The memories of that night still weigh on his conscience like a nightmare
"What if...they actually want you to free them?" I stepped closer as Djura slowly lowered his weapon in confusion "You were one of the Powder Keg. You were there when it was razed to the ground, weren't you? The guilt must be unbearable, yeah?"
His hand started shaking
"The red moon hangs low, and beasts rule the streets. Are we left no other choice...than to burn it all to cinders?" I gazed at him "Sounds familiar?"
With a scream of rage, Djura raised his weapon, unaware that he standing near the edge of the building's rooftop
I kicked him off the ledge
The Ashen Hunter easily lost his balance. He fall for several brief seconds, before crashing to the ground. As the dust cleared, there was no response, the hunter laid there unmoving like a dead corpse
I pulled out my gun and shot his body several times more to ensure he was dead. Nodding in satisfaction at the lack of response, I turned around to lit the nearest lamp.
+8,000 [Blood Echoes]
+[Ashen Hunter Set]
+ [Powder Keg Hunter Badge]
My gears need fortification, and with luck maybe I can upgrade some more needed skills for later foe
"You are a monster" Gascoigne said in shock behind me
"All the best hunters are" Was my reply as I closed my eyes and let the light of the ghastly lamp overtake me
To kill was to save. That's how it had always been in these types of worlds
<><><><><><><><>
Strangely enough, Gascoigne's presence had disappeared the moment I entered the Hunter's dream. I rationalize that since him being summoned was a part of my connection to the Great One's power, that same connection was cut off here as Flora's presence had thwarted out any authority I had over him
"Long time no see, Mary"
"Time is...irrelevant in this place, good Hunter" She bowed, still as gracious as before. "Your lack of presence, however, seems to have troubled the little ones"
"Well I hope they forgive me" I sat down in front of her "A Hunt can be quite vexing for the Hunter's mind. Some can be lost in it"
Absentmindedly I peeked up the Doll's skirt to see if there's anything there. What I saw however...
Oh
Oh
Gehrman you....
"Is something the matter, good Hunter?"
"No, nothing's wrong" I glanced to the side while holding my nose. For all his cryptic phrases and dirty old man attitude, I would never expect the First Hunter to be so...meticulously dedicated in his creation of the Doll
Is it simply the skills of his craft, or the magic from the Moon Presence that made her that way I wonder
Shaking my head, I decided to upgrade my skills from her. The Blood Echoes received from killing Paarl was just enough level up two of them
-25,000 [Blood Echoes]
[Razor's Edge II]: At higher mastery, an experienced Hunter command the wind in their blade
- When equipped with bladed weapons, allow you to compress the air flow on your blade and launch them out in lethal bursts of wind with a maximum range of 3 meters
-9,000 [Blood Echoes]
[Gravity Manipulation II]: Arcanes of the Great Ones are unfit for human to handle, however the Hunter can still replicate them with enough effort
- In a radius of 6 meters around you, you can alter the strength and direction of gravitational forces on your enemies
"And that's it" I noted with a degree of satisfaction. One restrict and sometime completely halt enemy movement upon use, the other allows me to safely attack at a distance without wasting Quicksilver bullets since they are only wind
I then check my progress to see which one I should cover next. However, as I skimmed through the list something caught my attention
Strength: 2/10
Dexterity: 9/10
Endurance: 2/10
Intelligence: 0/10
Wisdom: 2/10
Luck: 0/10
???: 0/10 (DLC)
....
So a new stat has been unlocked along with the DLC of the Old Hunters. A mysterious stat that I can only vaguly guess its purpose
My brows furrowed. At this time I have not even completed the main game. There's still the Healing Church Workshop. Lecture Building. Forbidden Wood. Cainhurst Castle. Byrgenworth. Yarha'gul. Nightmare of Mensis...
It's still too soon to visit the Hunter's Nightmare at this time.
My mind wandered toward a certain Accursed of the Healing Church. The First Vicar. The Lady of the Clock Tower. And the Screaming Orphan
Definitely too soon. I decided

This chapter is shorter than normal because I don't have much time. I'll update once again as compensation to you guys before moving on to schedule.
The next one will be an extra of sort. I'll just write it when I have the time and post it here
Just found this on pinterest the other day and thought it would be neat to share this with you guys. It reminds me a lot of Bloodborne even though it was an OC piece lol
