Wilderness therapy, adventure therapy, trauma therapy, experiential education...these are all methods of empowering vulnerable individuals that can be paired with rock climbing, both in the gym and outdoors.
Climbing provides a unique safe "third space" where trained mentors can work with youth and adults to develop resilience, heal, and build confidence.
Combining these two things - climbing and therapy - is a relatively new science pioneered by an international community.
TYA has mentors trained in trauma therapy thanks to our friend Aleya Littleton at Wild&Wonderful Counseling.
Our main program runs every two weeks in Fort Collins, but we're currently looking for a way to expand to areas like Boulder.
TYA also organizes a regular book club / roundtable session that explores books like The Climbing Therapy Institute's book "Climbing Therapy". (Email us if you find this interesting!)
TYA partners with larger NGOs like Global Climbing Initiative, Mountains Beyond Borders, and Kids at Heart to continue our work in integrating different methodologies and training into our core program and sharing these resources with other youth climbing programs around the world.
