The West Texas Kodály Initiative began in 2004 as a collaborative pilot program through Texas Tech University and a cohort of Texas independent school districts. It is currently supported through Lubbock ISD and Texas Tech University, with growing interest from additional districts throughout the state. The program is regarded as one of the most rigorous Kodály certification courses in the country. With a faculty of nationally and internationally recognized experts, the Kodály Initiative offers a three-year certification program, as well as advanced classes and courses for secondary vocal and instrumental teachers. The course is open to music teachers and university students from anywhere in the world and can be taken for optional graduate credit.
