August 2025: Meta Well-Being Retreat
Those in WeMerge who are part of the Meta Well-Being project, one that examined the first-hand experiences of WeMerge collective members for insight into what makes for a nurturing environment and community in higher education, attended Upham Woods retreat center in Wisconsin to work on their manuscript.
May 2025: APS Symposium
WeMerge members who had active roles in the practices and principles paper presented a 90 minute panel discussion at the 2025 APS Convention in Washington D.C. on the harmful culture that is engrained in academia, and promoted a “praxis that holds compassion and scientific rigor in equal measure” based on the paper.
January 2024: Winter Writing Retreat
The WeMerge collective held its first writing retreat in the winter of 2024, which was both productive and inspiring. During their time together, members were able to focus deeply on a collaborative manuscript, which is now under review. The retreat created a unique environment where researchers from across the country could share perspectives, and ensure all voices were heard in shaping the work. Beyond the writing itself, this retreat fostered a strong sense of community and reinforced the value of a team science approach that was established at the initial summer workshop. Being in the same space allowed them to engage more effectively, build trust, and strengthen the collaborative process.
