- Must be a current Chapman student (undergraduate or graduate) or staff/faculty.
- There is no cap on the number of entries per submitter, per writing category. Please submit separate JotForms for every entry. We will likely publish only one to two works per submitter.
- Before submitting the form, include one short author bio (regardless of how many pieces you submit). This must be written in the third person and can describe you/your work in general, as well as your major and class level. This will be published alongside your work if it is accepted.
- We do not accept previously published material. If your piece has been published in another literary or art journal (a physical or online journal/magazine), please do not submit it for our consideration. If you decide to re-publish work published in The Underground elsewhere, you must give The Underground credit for first appearance.
- All writing submissions must be sent through JotForm.
Writing Submission Guidelines
Genre: We accept literary work of an experimental and traditional nature. Screenplays, plays, poetry, non-fiction, fiction, and essays.
Format: We do not have a required format for submissions. We will do our best to maintain your formatting for any experimental piece you submit.
Delete your name or other personal information from all documents, asThe Underground submissions are read anonymously. If selected for publication, pieces will no longer be anonymous, as writers will be revising with one or more of our editors. Please submit your works as separate files, i.e. do not submit two works in one document or the second piece will not be considered.
Length: Written submissions have no minimum or maximum word count.
