Open Letter: Civil society coalition urges Canada to stop all arms transfers to Israel

Sanction the state of Israel for its continued ongoing violations of International law in the West Bank and Gaza;
Arms embargo on ‘Israel’
A complete lift of the siege on Gaza
Immediate release of illegal imprisonment of Palestinians
End of the occupation of the occupied territories and dismantling of settlements
Cease all trade relations and install an arms embargo until Israel abides by international law; and
Condemn the ongoing war crimes against Palestinian people as stated in international law.
Impose a two-way embargo on arms between Canada and Israel;
Investigate whether Canadian weapons or weapons components have been used against Palestinian civilians in the occupied Palestinian territories, including during the current war on Gaza (2024);
Review all military and security cooperation between Canada and Israel; and
Close loopholes that allow the unregulated and unreported transfer of military goods to Israel through the United States.
Greatly reduce (refugee) applicants’ personal detail requirements, including granular health information, social media accounts, and other onerous documentation;
End the policy of sending (refugee) applicants’ names for approval to the Israeli government before accepting them to leave Gaza through the Egyptian border; and
Strongly call for the Israeli government to facilitate free movement of approved (refugee) applicants from Gaza to Canada.
Institute a ban on the sale of nickel to Israel and to those armament manufacturers that supply Israel; and
Require purchasers of Canadian nickel to certify that they will not re-sell Canadian nickel to Israel or to arms manufacturers supplying Israel.
Acknowledge the generational trauma caused by decades of occupation of Palestinian territories, and condemn ongoing human rights abuses and violations of international law.
Commit to implementing the NDP motion, Vote No. 658, section: “(g) ensuring Canadians in Gaza can seek refuge in Canada and expanding access to temporary resident visas.”;
Pressure Israel to ensure a permanent ceasefire is obtained;
Use every tool at its disposal - diplomatic, military and political sanctions, and supporting prosecutions for war crimes to end Israel's genocide in Palestine;
Pressure Israel to ensure an end to the siege of Gaza, with immediate and unrestricted aid to starving Palestinians; and
End Canadian complicity in the genocide, including by imposing a two-way arms embargo on Israel, including arms being sent via the U.S.
Call for an immediate and permanent ceasefire which would include the release of all hostages and political prisoners;
Immediately place an embargo on the provision of munitions and weaponry to Israel, directly or through any other country or countries;
Continue funding to UNWRA allowing the immediate much-needed flow of food, water, aid and humanitarian assistance;
Recognize the Israeli blockade and continued armed attacks by Israel on the innocent citizens of Gaza, as Genocide within the meaning of the Genocide Convention which Canada signed;
Work toward Palestinian statehood;
Put an end to the military occupation of Palestinian land; and
Support the work of the ICJ and the International Criminal Court.
Join our allies in explicitly condemning Israel for its numerous war crimes and the genocidal rhetoric from members of the Israeli Cabinet
Join our allies, including Norway, Spain, and Ireland, in recognizing the State of Palestine
Acknowledge anti-Palestinian racism as a unique form of hate and work to address it in Canada
End all research collaboration between Canadian and Israeli researchers on military and dual-use technologies.

Universities, Banks, and Commercial Organizations:

Disclose its ties with the Israeli Government & divest from Israeli companies.
