Over the past several months, the chapter has grown, flourished and embodied the assisting hand that we all strive to be. There is a lot to be thankful for, and a lot to look forward to.
We want to share just a few of the fantastic accomplishments of our brothers this semester. One of our biggest victories this year has been our improvements in philanthropy. This fall, the chapter participated in Hit the Bricks, Wake Forest's charity event for the Brian Piccolo Cancer Research Fund. Groups from all across campus compete to see who can raise the most money and run the most laps around the quad in an 8 hour event. Our chapter killed it!
Under the leadership of our Philanthropy Chair, Nate Seegal (Spring 2019), Theta Chi not only ran the most laps of any student group (A whopping 671), but also blew out the competition with a grand total of $6,165 raised. An assisting hand indeed!
Our chapter has also seen two of its members take on positions within the Interfraternity Council, with Nathaniel Seegel (Spring 2019) elected to be President of IFC, and Rory Britt (Fall 2019) elected to be Programming Chair. These additions represent our commitment to all Greek organizations at Wake Forest and to our chapter’s continued expansion into the community.
Additionally, we are proud to announce that we recently initiated 12 fall pledges bringing our total number of brothers to a respectable 59 resolute men. On top of that, we recently held elections for the next generation of Gamma Omicron leadership. Rest assured, the brotherhood is in good hands.
In addition to this, we want to highlight our two new faculty advisors, both of whom dedicate an inordinate amount of time and effort in growing and improving our chapter!
Θ Mir Yarfitz is a professor of the Wake Forest History Department who specializes in US-Latin American relations, as well as racial, religious, and cultural movements. He is a Fulbright Scholar in Argentina, and worked with migrant farmworker labor unions in Washington, Oregon, and Georgia. We are lucky to have his expertise and enthusiasm for our chapter!
Θ Steph Trilling is the current Director of Wake Forest’s Women’s Center and specializes in crisis intervention and creating inclusive programming. She received degrees from UMass Amherst in History and Salem State in Counselling and provides our fraternity with critical knowledge on the importance of healthy relationships and creating a safer environment on campus.
So what's next? We need your help! As many of you who returned to Wake for Homecoming may have noticed, the lounge doesn't have the same feeling of home that it used to. Since the renovation, pieces of history were removed, the lounge's charm was hidden, and the chapter is working to figure out how to once again make it our own.
This is where you come in.
We would love the financial support of our alumni in order to enhance the lounge once again. Our current housing manager has been working on finding shelves to house awards, furniture to make rooms more livable, and a host of other physical improvements to make the lounge a reflection of the growing and thriving brotherhood.
If you would be willing to contribute, please consider directing your donation to the chapter through the link below or by sending a check made out to Theta Chi to our Alumni Advisor, Paul Wingate, at PO Box 7227, Winston-Salem, NC 27109.
In addition to a host of other improvements being implemented for the chapter, we are forming an official Chapter Advisory Board. For it, we need at least 2 alumni to serve with brother Paul Wingate, so if you are interested, please reach out to him at wingatpl@wfu.edu.
Thank you all for your support!
