A portfolio is a collection of your best work over the course of our term. The purpose is to showcase the learning you have done since September, and to create a display of work that you are proud of. It should show how you have applied your skills in all areas.

Students will write reflections that describe why they chose each artifact and what they are hoping to show about their learning by having it on display. It is expected that students will think deeply about how their work shows their learning. Reflections will include thoughts about what students would improve on if they had more time, or what they think they need to do in future to improve their learning. For example:
a student might choose a Math assignment they struggled with, and a Math assignment where they were very successful to show their growth and improvement with their Math skills with whole number operations.Â
a student might choose two writing samples that show how powerful they are at including details in their writing, or how they worked hard to include a bold beginning that hooks their audience
a student might choose a Literature Circle journal entry from the beginning of circles and one from the end to showcase the growth in their reading skills of connecting, visualizing, inferencing, and summarizing and how they are thinking more deeply about what they are reading
a student might choose their Your School, My School project to showcase how strong they are at researching non-fiction, comparing and contrasting different parts of the world, or understanding different global perspectives
a student might choose one art piece to showcase their work with marker technique to create a smooth finish, and they might choose another piece to showcase their cartooning skills, typography (letter design), or pencil shading technique
Part II of our Inquiry Project is Science-based, but also includes; art, applied design and skills, and language arts. This project will be on display for our Learning Showcase. All families will be invited to attend. You can learn more about this part of the project by clicking on the photo.
