Solar car is a competition where students build a DRIVABLE car powered by solar energy. The students have to raise money, gather parts, and build their car throughout the year. Then, in July, students will go to Texas motor speedway for scrutineering, which makes sure our car is safe to drive, then compete in the competition which alternates between a road race, and a race on the Texas Motor Speedway.
The Solar Car Challenge was founded in 1993, since then students from all over the country have participated. Our team is in its second year, with vital experience from the first.
Each team member is highly involved, and as a result, every member becomes a mechanic by extension. Through practical application, knowledge is developed and reinforced.
