The Snarthouse is a passion project conceived during the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic by Bridgeport resident Kate Porter. While initially planned as a series of monochrome paintings, the social isolation resulting from "shelter in place" orders led to more ideas for "snart" (snarky art). As time went on and reopenings were delayed, the art collection grew and the gallery and exhibit concepts were born.
Kate Porter is a lifelong resident of Fairfield County, Connecticut. She grew up in Monroe with her parents, three sisters, one brother, and a handful of household pets. After several years majoring in different subjects at a variety of colleges and universities, Kate began a career in property management with her family's company.
In pre-COVID days, Kate would attend as many as twenty art gallery openings each year; she enjoyed sharing her sarcastic yet insightful commentary with friends over wine and cheese. These experiences provided inspiration for The Snarthouse, in which Kate plays the roles of artist, curator, webmaster, and copywriter.
Kate enjoys reading, cooking, mythology and folklore, traveling to different cities, binging cheesy series on Netflix, and playing video games. She lives in Bridgeport with her demonic pet cat.
