About Our Work at Virginia Tech

We work with a wonderful missions organization called Chi Alpha Campus Ministries. Chi Alpha is a campus ministry network on over 300 campuses in the United States with a unified dream of reconciling students to Christ, thereby transforming the University, the marketplace and the world. The universities and colleges of America contain some of the most influential people on the face of the earth. The young men and women studying at our colleges will rise to positions of power and influence in our world, setting the tone for future generations and determining the course of history. We believe that if we reach the university for Christ, we reach the world. For Christ to be exalted on the college campus is for Christ to be exalted in the world!

By God's grace, we have worked as campus missionaries with Chi Alpha at Virginia Tech for over five years. Our work is summarized well by the following forms of ministry and outreach:

International Student Outreach

God has brought around 3,000 international students from around 100 nations to VT that they might come to know Jesus (Acts 17:26). We lead VTXA's outreach to international students - a fun game of missions in reverse!

Discipleship

Jesus' last words before ascending into Heaven involved discipleship. We take those last words seriously. Our weekly schedules revolve heavily around making disciples who make disciples (2 Tim. 2:2) through teaching, mentorship, and more!

Training Future Ministers

Johnny directs our Campus Missionary In-Training program at VT, the goal of which is to equip future ministers through Biblical, ministerial, personal, and spiritual training to pioneer Chi Alphas on other campuses.

Media Outreach

In an increasingly technological age, the medium of advertising has moved from being primarily paper-based to being digital. Amanda leads VTXA's media team - an outreach arm that manages our website, app, social media, merch, and more - all of which are aimed at reaching into the lives of this generation.

Counseling For Life Controlling Issues

Since 2020, we have partnered with Pure Desire Ministries to offer quality biblical counseling, accountability, and resources to help young men and women find freedom in Christ from pornography and other unwanted sexual behaviors, past trauma and abuse, root issues, and addictions that lead to destructive lifestyles.

Our Callings

Both of us went to Virginia Tech as students, graduating in spring of 2017 and 2018, respectively. Johnny graduated with a degree in Industrial and Systems Engineering, and Amanda graduated with a degree in Architecture with a minor in Sustainable and Natural Environments. Both felt led to do a Campus Missionary In-Training Internship with Virginia Tech Chi Alpha (VTXA) after graduating.

During our respective internships and after much prayer, God made it clear to us that He was calling us to work with VTXA. This leap of faith is where our work in ministry began and also where our paths crossed with each other, which led to us getting married in 2020. Our biggest passion and burden from the Lord is most likely our heart for the nations to know Jesus and receive salvation through Him. We count ourselves blessed three times over for being able to do full-time ministry, to have a ministry focusing largely on this passion for the nations, and to be able to minister alongside each other.
