The Period Vampires began as a grassroots organization in 2022, born from a simple but impactful complaint about the lack of sanitary bins at Balter Festival. Beth voiced this opinion online, and the post quickly became the most interacted with post on the Balter Festival event page. Balter got in touch with Beth, seeking solutions to the problems that the post had brought to light. The first iteration of this solution was The Womb Tomb, an immersive venue that served as a safe space for menstruators, offering free period products, pain relief, and a supportive community of Menstruation Vampires!
Following the first appearance of The Womb Tomb at Balter 2022, the crimson mantle was passed to Charlie. Under their leadership, The Period Vampires grew beyond Balter festival into a wider grassroots social organisation, partnering with organizations like Bloody Good Period and Irise International to further the cause of menstrual equity. This evolution reflects our desire create lasting social change in both festival and community spaces.
Our mission is to normalise menstruation, fight menstrual stigma, and create equitable access to period products and support in festival spaces.
Festivals are known for their celebration of freedom, creativity, and togetherness, but for many menstruators, the festival experience is marred by lack of access to proper sanitary facilities, shame, and discomfort.
That’s where we come in.
Festivals often overlook menstruation as a basic need, yet it’s a crucial part of creating an inclusive and accessible environment for all attendees.
By providing free period products, pain relief, and a safe space for those who menstruate, we empower festival-goers to experience the full joy of the event without the stress of managing their period in less-than-ideal conditions.
We aim to break the silence, erase the shame, and demand better facilities at music festivals across the country.
Through our advocacy, we bring menstruation out of the shadows and into the spotlight, ensuring it is seen, heard, and respected at every event.
We are here to ensure that no bleeder is left behind.
