Recently there have been reports of students, particularly Asian students, who have sued Harvard and the University of North Carolina. The reason for the lawsuit: affirmative action. We will take a deeper dive into the idea of these lawsuits, as well as affirmative action, and see how it is affecting the colleges and universities of the United States.
First, let's take a look at affirmative action. Affirmative action was made as a way to help black people in America. One of the most prominent examples is one that was put in place for black women. The policy said that if a black woman had a baby, and the father wasn't a part of the house, the woman would be compensated. What the government didn't predict was the sudden spike of single black mothers that would swamp the countries. My mom says that "When you incentive bad behavior, you get more of that bad behavior." This is a very true statement. In the context of universities, affirmative action has an even more devastating effect.
If we take a look at the statistics of graduation rates of different races compared to the enrollment rates, you see that blacks, who as a reminder have affirmative action on their side, have the third largest college enrollment rate in the nation but they have the lowest graduation rate in the nation. This is because of affirmative action. Affirmative action in this context, gives blacks priority over other applicants. This puts blacks at an immediate disadvantage. They enter college possibly completely unprepared. This is a major factor when it comes to the low college graduation rates. I would think that it would be insulting to blacks that they have affirmative action. Affirmative action, in a school context, is basically saying "You are stupid and require help, therefore we are going to give you the help you need." If you know that you don't need help, you should not be relying on affirmative action!
Affirmative action does more than hurt blacks, it also hurts other races. This is seen in the lowered amount of white and Asian students. There are too many black students in colleges to the point where white and Asian students from entering college. This is why there are lawsuits!
Affirmative action is a horrible, horrible policy. If you want a better chance of a good college education, I would advise doing your best to get rid of affirmative action.
In the past weeks we have seen more and more of a push for kids to wear masks and get the COVID vaccine. This push has mainly been by the left. Why are they pushing it? Is it a good idea for kids to wear masks? Is it beneficial to them? We'll answer that and more.
The mask mandate has been a pain to everyone in the past three years. The main part of the dissatisfaction is the fact that it has not been lifted at all. If you enjoy the mask mandate then I'm sorry and I don't know how to help you. That's besides the point. Recently the political left has been pushing the idea that young children need to wear masks and, as my friend Joseph says, get a Fauci ouchie. Technically speaking, no they don't. Let me explain. COVID is a virus that hurts elderly and those of us that have comorbidities. Comorbidities are stuff like heart disease, obesity, etc. The best part about the push for masked children is the people pushing provide absolutely no evidence. On The Ben Shapiro Show the host Ben Shapiro lists several politicians that are saying that kids need to mask with no data to back them. This is the perspective of the left. Now let's move onto what those politicians are now saying.
The politicians that were saying that kids need to mask up, are now saying that they were wrong. Based on what was previously stated, they are very wrong and should be very sorry. However, they are trying to say that they the ones who are discovering that mask mandates are not needed. The American Democrats are trying to salvage their position with the American people. They cannot do anything else. The only way that they are going to get their fame back with the American people is to pivot to the way the Republicans are doing things and try to claim credit. This is the only way for them. If you listen to The Ben Shapiro Show from today, Tuesday February 8, 2022, Mr. Shapiro predicts exactly what will happen. I completely agree with his perspective on this. The politicians need to pivot to keep themselves in the spotlight.
That's all I have for you today. Thank you so much for reading. Theo's News will be back next week with some more content about another prominent topic in the United States. See you next week.
