Privacy Policy
Effective Date: 14 August 2026
Last Updated: 30 September 2026
OVERVIEW
TheoryNest ("the App", "we", "us") helps users practise UK driving theory questions, road signs, mock exams, and hazard perception practice. This Privacy Policy explains how information is handled when you use the App on Android and Apple iOS.
Platform differences matter: the iOS version is free with no advertisements and no in-app purchases. The Google Play (Android) version is free to download and may show advertisements; you can optionally subscribe to Yearly Premium to remove ads and unlock premium study features. We do not require an account on either platform.
For the rules governing use of the App, see Terms & Conditions inside the App (Settings → About & Privacy). The Terms and the AI Disclaimer are bundled with the App rather than hosted on this site.
AT A GLANCE
Apple iOS
- Free download — no ads, no subscriptions, no in-app purchases in current builds
- Quiz progress and settings stay on your device
- We do not collect personal data on our servers
Google Play (Android)
- Free download with optional Google AdMob advertisements
- Optional Yearly Premium subscription (auto-renewing; price shown in Google Play, currently about £5.99/year) removes ads
- Ad partners (Google and mediation networks) may process advertising-related data — see below
- Quiz progress and settings stay on your device; we do not operate cloud sync
DATA CONTROLLER
The data controller for this App is Affan Habib (individual developer/publisher, United Kingdom). For day-to-day operation, learning data stays on your device (see below). We are responsible for decisions about how any personal data that reaches us is processed (for example, if you email support).
INFORMATION STORED ONLY ON YOUR DEVICE
Locally stored progress & preferences
The following is stored locally on your device (for example via SharedPreferences or equivalent local storage):
- Quiz results, scores, and answered questions
- Study streaks, daily goals, and mock exam history
- Bookmarks and flagged translation reports
- Language, theme, and practice mode preferences
- Optional study reminder time and enable/disable setting
- Hazard perception practice progress (which clips you completed)
- Premium/subscription status flags (Android) and lifetime remove-ads flags where applicable
Android-only local ad & monetization data
On Android, the App may also store non-personal counters and preferences on your device to manage ad frequency and rewarded-ad limits, for example:
- Daily fullscreen ad counts and cooldown timestamps
- Practice session counters used for ad timing rules
- Engagement score used to apply fair ad frequency tiers
- Rewarded-ad daily quotas (hints, results unlock, etc.)
- Onboarding and first-launch-of-day flags for ad policy
These values are not uploaded to our servers. Google's User Messaging Platform (UMP) may store consent choices on your device as part of the consent flow.
This on-device data is not transmitted to our servers by the App. We do not operate a cloud sync or user account system.
Deleting local data: Clear app data in system settings or uninstall the App to remove locally stored information from this installation.
Offline content bundled in the App
Question banks, road sign images, and hazard perception practice videos are bundled in the App for offline use. These assets are not uploaded from your device.
PERMISSIONS
- Internet: Used to load advertisements and process subscription purchases on Android (Google AdMob, Google Play Billing), and when you open external links (for example GOV.UK, our privacy page, or support email). Core practice works offline after install. The App also runs a lightweight connectivity check (a DNS lookup to the IANA-reserved example.com) so it can show an offline notice; this sends no personal data.
- Notifications (Android / iOS): Used only if you enable optional daily study reminders. You can turn reminders off in the App or deny permission in system settings.
- Advertising ID (Android only): The App declares com.google.android.gms.permission.AD_ID and android.permission.ACCESS_ADSERVICES_AD_ID so Google AdMob can use the device advertising identifier when ads are shown and consent allows. iOS builds do not use these permissions for ads.
The App does not require camera, microphone, contacts, photo library, or location permissions for core features.
ADVERTISING (GOOGLE PLAY / ANDROID ONLY)
The Android version may show advertisements served through Google AdMob, including:
- Banner ads (on selected hub and home screens)
- App open ads (when returning to the App, subject to frequency limits)
- Interstitial and rewarded interstitial ads (for example after completing a quiz or lesson)
- Rewarded video ads (optional — for example to unlock hints, full results review, extra mock exams, or weak-area reports)
AdMob may use mediation to request ads from additional networks configured in our AdMob account, which may include Meta Audience Network and AppLovin. Mediation is managed by Google; we do not operate separate SDK integrations for those networks beyond the mediation adapters included in the Android build.
When ads are shown, Google and its ad partners may process data such as:
- Device advertising identifier (Advertising ID)
- IP address and approximate region
- Device type, operating system, and language
- Ad impressions, clicks, and interaction metrics
- Diagnostic and fraud-prevention signals related to ad delivery
We do not receive this data directly for our own use. Ad serving and measurement are handled by Google and its partners under their terms:
- Google Privacy Policy — https://policies.google.com/privacy
- Google AdMob & ads policies — https://support.google.com/admob/answer/6128543
Ad consent (UK / EEA)
Before requesting personalized ads in regions where required (including the UK and EEA), the App uses Google's User Messaging Platform (UMP) to collect and record your consent choices. You can review or change ad consent at any time via Settings → Privacy choices in the App (when available for your region).
If you do not consent to personalized ads, the App may still show non-personalized or limited ads where permitted, or no ads if consent blocks ad requests entirely.
Yearly Premium subscribers do not see banner, interstitial, app open, or other monetization ads while the subscription is active.
IN-APP PURCHASES & SUBSCRIPTIONS (GOOGLE PLAY / ANDROID ONLY)
The Android version offers an optional auto-renewing subscription:
- Yearly Premium — billed yearly through Google Play (price displayed at purchase, currently about £5.99/year; local pricing may vary)
⚠️ KEEP YOUR EXISTING LINES HERE: the remaining bullets in this list (payment handled by Google Play / we never see your card details, auto-renewal notice, refunds and billing disputes) are unchanged on your live page — leave them exactly as they are.
- Manage or cancel: Open Google Play → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions, or use the subscription management link Google provides. Cancellation stops future renewals; access typically continues until the end of the current billing period. Refunds are handled under Google Play's terms and refund policies.
- Restore purchases: Use Settings → Restore purchases in the App to sync an existing subscription to this device.
iOS builds do not offer in-app purchases or subscriptions in current releases.
THIRD-PARTY SERVICES
- Google AdMob — Android — Ad delivery, measurement, and monetization
- Meta Audience Network / AppLovin (via AdMob mediation) — Android — Additional ad demand through Google mediation
- Google User Messaging Platform (UMP) — Android — GDPR/UK ad consent and privacy choices
- Google Play Billing — Android — Yearly Premium subscription purchase and renewal
- Apple StoreKit / In-App Purchase — iOS — Not used for purchases in current iOS builds
GOOGLE PLAY (ANDROID)
On Android, third-party partners (primarily Google AdMob and mediation networks) may collect advertising-related data as described above. Your quiz progress, scores, and study settings remain stored locally on your device unless you choose to share them (for example via the system share sheet). We do not operate a user account or sync your study data to our servers.
Our Google Play Data safety declaration is intended to match this policy: the developer does not collect personal data directly; ad partners may collect Device or other IDs and App interactions for advertising purposes on Android.
DATA WE DO NOT COLLECT DIRECTLY
We do not require your name, email, or phone number to use the App. We do not ask you to upload photos or contacts for core features. We do not operate developer servers that store your quiz history.
We do not use Firebase, analytics SDKs, or remote crash reporting that sends personal data to our servers in current builds. Error logging in development builds stays on the device console only.
Important: While we do not collect personal data directly, Google and its ad/billing partners on Android may process data as described in the Advertising and Subscriptions sections. That processing is governed by their policies, not ours.
LINKS TO OTHER WEBSITES
The App may contain links to external websites (such as GOV.UK). Tapping these links takes you outside the App. We do not send your data to those destinations through these links, and we are not responsible for the privacy practices of external sites.
CHILDREN & FAMILIES
The App is intended as a general-audience educational tool for learner drivers. Parents and guardians should supervise younger users as they consider appropriate. The App is not directed at children under 13 as a primary audience.
We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. The App does not ask for a name, email address, or age, and your study data stays on your device.
YOUR RIGHTS
Depending on where you live (including UK GDPR), you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or restrict certain processing. Because most data is on-device, many requests can be met by clearing app data or uninstalling. For ad-related processing on Android, you may also use Settings → Privacy choices or your device's advertising settings. Contact us if you have questions.
CONTENT SOURCES & LICENSING
Highway Code (UK Government)
Highway Code rules and related study content are based on official UK Government material published on GOV.UK — The Highway Code (https://www.gov.uk/guidance/the-highway-code), licensed under the Open Government Licence v3.0. © Crown copyright where applicable.
Practice questions
Practice questions were created using AI-assisted authoring based on publicly available UK driving theory material (Highway Code, gov.uk guidance). They are original practice material — not copied from the official DVSA question bank.
Translations
Bengali (Bangla), Urdu, and Hindi question text is provided using AI-assisted translation from the English practice material. Translations are for study support only and may contain errors. The official UK driving theory test is conducted in English.
Images
Road sign images in the bundled question bank are reproduced from official UK Government sources (Crown copyright) under the Open Government Licence v3.0 — the App contains 91 traffic sign images. The app icon is AI-generated artwork created for this app. The Warning Lights quiz uses Flutter Material Icons (no bundled image files). Public sector information
Contains public sector information licensed under the Open Government Licence (OGL) v3.0. © Crown copyright where applicable. This material is not personal data.
HAZARD PERCEPTION PRACTICE VIDEOS
Hazard perception clips bundled in the App are original practice recordings filmed by the developer for educational simulation (confirmed 21 August 2026). They are not official DVSA hazard clips. Video files are stored in the App bundle; we do not upload your gameplay or scores to our servers.
NOT OFFICIAL DVSA MATERIAL
This App is for practice only and is not affiliated with the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA).
CHANGES TO THIS POLICY
We may update this policy to reflect new features or legal requirements. We will adjust the effective or last updated date when we do. Material changes may also be reflected in store listings.
STORE LISTINGS & ACCURACY
We aim to keep this policy consistent with our Google Play Data safety section and Apple App Store privacy nutrition labels. If you notice a discrepancy, please contact us so we can correct it.
