All About One Acts!

What are One Acts?

One Acts are plays with only one act, hence the name. They are usually thirty minutes, but can be longer. (However the plays we do at our school are either thirty minutes or shorter.) This differs from regular plays, which can last up to three hours, and have more than one act.

Why Audition?

One Acts are for anyone who is considering trying out theater. It's a good place to start for those who are new, and they're fun for people who are more experienced. If you have stage fright-- that's okay! One Acts tend to draw less crowds than the musical and Rock and Roll, so there's less pressure. And if you don't like singing, One Acts have no songs or dances, just acting. It's also less time consuming, so if you have other extra-curriculars, it's easy to make time for.

The Audition Process

On November 29th, everyone who wants to audition will meet after school in the Blackbox Theater. (First floor, music hallway.) The directors will each talk about what their One Act is about. You will then be given a paper asking you for you name and other information, as well as a ranked list of the plays you want to be in the most. (1: I love this one! 4: I don't think this one is for me.) After you fill out your sheet, you will grab a portion of a script from the play you want to be in the most, find a group of five, and go out in the hallway to practice the monologue on the script for your audition. Some time after that, groups of five will be called back in to audition. You will audition on the small stage in the blackbox in front of all of the directors, with your friends sitting in the room with you to support you.

This year's One Acts:

All Hands On Deck

One would think that what happens on a cargo ship wouldn't be very eventful. Let alone, a murder mystery. In All Hands on Deck, a One Act written by Sabrina Richter, a trading vessel is heading to Tarrin from Saxion, marking the voyage the first between the two nations in over ten years, due to conflict between them. However, when Hawkins and Fletcher find the second mate dead below deck, things start to take a bit of a turn...

The Cost

Four women each contribute to the downfall of a heinous cult. Working both together and independently, they grapple with the toll it takes on their lives.

Harsh Realities

What happens when four friends and one pesky younger brothers gather around a table to talk about their plan for an apocolypse? Nothing, right? An apocolypse won't happen. But what happens when it does? Will they stick to their elaborate plan? Watch to see how friends Iris, Kai, Adelaide, Cori, and Bradley attempt to survive an apocolypse.

Woah, Bear!

Four very different friends go on a hiking and camping trip in the Adirondack mountains, when, on the way back down, they run into a big bear! :O

Introducing Some Actors From Last Year:

Ghost Our Place

"I find One Acts to be a very good experience for working as a team with my peers. It helped me improve my acting and how I communicate and work with others."

Alex Boisee, Idaho

"I've always liked acting, and at the time, it was the only opportunity I had to act without any music, and especially with a cast this small, I was able to get to know the other cast members and the directors better."

Logan Our Place

"It's something in the school that doesn't involve music. Acting is my strong suit, and I like being able to show what I bring to the table."

Bella Our Place

"I liked that it was a smaller cast, just because I've never been involved in a small show like that before and it was nice to work with a couple of friends."
