Definition of Mental Health
The World Health Organization (WHO) defines the concept of “health” as a state of physical, emotional and spiritual well-being.
Mental health, i.e. being spiritually healthy, is a satisfactory adaptation to oneself and one's environment according to the requirements of social life. In addition, mental well-being is a state of well-being within oneself and of being sufficiently useful to the external environment, as far as one's abilities allow. Mental health strives to increase the individual's defense power against diseases and tries to protect the individual from diseases. It aims to facilitate living conditions and tries to ensure that people live happier lives. Although there is a close relationship between physical condition and mental health, this is a learned process.
Mental health is a very comprehensive concept. It encompasses the behavior of individuals, the population background in which they live, the functions of the individual and society, and the work of professionals in various disciplines related to mental health.
It includes moral and ethical concepts, religious interpretations, personal research, value judgments, psychological and psychiatric theories, political, economic and various other issues.
