CHRIST (Deemed to be University) was born out of the educational vision of St Kuriakose Elias Chavara, an educationist and social reformer of the nineteenth century in South India. He founded the first Catholic indigenous congregation, Carmelites of Mary Immaculate (CMI) in 1831, which administers CHRIST (Deemed to be University).
The graduate attributes of CHRIST (Deemed to be University) are focused on 'Holistic Development' or 'whole person growth’ and is attained through academic excellence, professional competence, and personal, interpersonal and societal skills
The institution began as Christ College in 1969, and in 2004, The University Grants Commission (UGC) of India conferred Autonomy to the college, and it was identified as an Institution with Potential for Excellence in 2006.
It was declared an institution deemed a university by the Ministry of Education on 22 July 2008.
In 2022, the University was awarded an ‘A+’ grade by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council, and all these years, it has carried along the philosophy of "Excellence and Service".
Nestled in the lap of the Sahyadri Mountains, the campus offers a breath of fresh air and proximity to nature which makes it very conducive to any learning. Teaching and learning go hand in hand with considerable educational liberty, innovative education, and enough opportunities for self-introspection. School of Law, CHRIST University (SLCU), Lavasa, is a part of CHRIST University that renders its service to humanity in educational, social, healthcare and other activities.The School of Law works with the vision to become a globally recognized centre for excellence in legal education in a manner that caters to the needs of all stakeholders and imbibes the qualities to create and proactively generate an in-depth legal knowledge in the student community so that they can transfer their acquired knowledge to the larger benefit of the society, in accordance with professional ethics and values.
The School of Law offers Undergraduate, Postgraduate and Doctoral programmes in law as per the guidelines of the Bar Council of India and the University Grants Commission.
The programmes offered at the School of Law incorporate a number of special opportunities such as internships, clinical programmes, supervisory research and writing.Seminars, guest lectures, and workshops on a variety of legal topics are regularly held in order to foster contact between students and legal professionals.
