an instensive expansion and recreation plan for Walt Disney World
Mickey Mouse Park is a never built concept that pre-dates Disneyland. Walt wanted a place where people could gather, relax, and celebrate. This grew into the idea for theme parks, but it began with Disney's take on a city park. That initial early dream is what we intend to honor with our new project.
This new Mickey Mouse Park will be the perfect place for locals and tourists alike to unwind and enjoy a day free of stress. There are some small fees for certain activities, but entry is free. It shares the same parking as Magic Kingdom meaning outside of select activities that include upcharges, the only cost is parking which is waved for Annual Passholders and Cast Members making it functionally free for most locals and a relatively cheap option for those without Disney tickets (Though parking at Disney Springs and bussing over is also a valid option).
Nature trails, a lakeside cafe, paddle boats, a merry go round, horse drawn carriages, live music, spaces for local vendors, a small museum, a train ride through botanical gardens...
There is so much to discover and no pressure to rush or stress out about any of it!β Here youth may savor the challenge and promise of the future.
While the new Mickey Mouse Park is already amazing on its own as a calm, relaxing spot for tourists and locals alike to unwind, it is so much more than just a park. It is the cornerstone of a complete reworking of the Ticket & Transportation Center and Magic Kingdom Parking in order to not only make park arrival/departure significantly smoother and more pleasant (famously park arrival/departure is the absolute WORST part of a Magic Kingdom day so anything helps) but to also set up the needed infrastructure for a 5th Gate at WDW.
a bird's eye view of the expansion plans
Phase One will involve the construction of the Heroes Parking Garage which will require the closure of Seven Seas Drive and part of the current Villains Lot. Though that road is just an infrequently used cut over between Polynesian and Contemporary and traffic can be easily rerouted. The Garage is only 3 levels tall (with a 4th rooftop level) making it short by parking garage standards to ensure it is not much taller than the surrounding buildings to avoid dominating the skyline. Much like the Disney Springs parking garage, greenery will be added to the exterior to give it a pleasant appearance. The lowest level will mostly be used for a new security checkpoint, ride share drop off, 3rd party bus stops, and handicap parking while the other levels are traditional parking spaces.
Also in phase one, the pathways from the TTC to MK through Poly/Grand Flo will be widened and bike/electric scooter rentals added as an alternative to monorails/ferry boats. New walking pathways will be constructed connecting Contemporary and Wilderness Lodge as well.
Phase Two will involve preliminary construction on Mickey Mouse Park focused on infrastructure while the new Villains Garage is constructed and the TTC is redone to add back the old character topiaries and redo the visual style to match the more natural and classy vibe of the future Mickey Mouse Park.
Phase Three will be the grand opening of Mickey Mouse Park. With this new park, two large new parking garages, and a redone TTC, the stage will be set for the next major evolution of WDW.
Phase Four is more blue sky future planning, but there is space reserved for a third parking garage and room for a full 5th gate theme park which would only require the loss of the remaining surface lots as well as a nearby golf course. Plus, rerouting Floridian Way. All very possible to do especially since the large lake in Mickey Mouse Park will go a long way to compensating for the reduction in drainage fields that would come with major construction like a new park. With 3 Garages, the parking capacity would be over double the current MK parking capacity making it more than capable of handling a second park.
Of course, that's all for on down the line and not the point. The most important focus right now is the park itself. An oasis of relaxation, nature, history, fun, and celebration in the middle of a hectic tourist destination. The perfect way to start your day before going into the park or to unwind after a long day waiting in lines fighting crowds. A place pleasant enough to be a destination itself, but equally great even if just used as a stop on your journey.
