Durga, the great Hindu goddess of war and protection. Throughout the ages she has been worshipped on battlefields for her blessing. However, Durga's story is about more than just battle. She is also the Mother Goddess, and she has always been there to protect those who are too weak to defend themselves. From the very beginning, when she was created by the other gods to defeat the buffalo demon Mahishasura, she has used every weapon at her disposal to unleash her wrath on those who anger her.
However, there are times when she has felt the inevitable despair of being just one woman in a world with countless villains. These days, she struggles to pick up her bow and ride her tiger into battle across India. When she helps the weak she feels satisfaction, but it no longer is enough. She has been standing up for others for so long that she is growing tired and wishes someone could take her place. She can't shake the feeling that she will never do enough to help the people who call out to her for help. She needs a new perspective on how to help the countless souls who need her. After all, how can you truly call yourself a protector of India if you were created for the sole purpose of defeating a demon who has long since left current memory?
Enter Carol Danvers, better known as Captain Marvel, Marvel's strongest Avenger. Carol has lived her life in the United States as a soldier and a protector, and always seeks to protect the weak from bullies. She never backs down from a fight, and at times is happiest when there is a villain to be her punching bag. Together with her fellow Avengers, she has fought to protect countless innocents on countless worlds. The bright Hala star on her chest is a beacon of hope to all those she fights to protect, and she never hesitates to put herself in harm's way for a friend. Carol's fearless instincts, military training, and selfless actions make up the epitome of who the tired goddess Durga wishes to be again. She has forgotten how it feels to be a hero who looks death in the face and smiles as Carol does.
One day, however, something snaps. Durga wakes, and she just knows she cannot keep living like this. She ignores those calling out for her, and looks up to the stars that she wishes she could touch. Using her third eye, she knows that the fire within her has grown dormant with time. Something must change for the people of India's safety. With this knowledge, Durga's Shakti force invades her mind before she even realizes what is happening. And where she once stood in the forests of India, positioned to help those who needed her, she now finds herself in a New York City apartment, with no clue how she got there. Unbeknownst to Durga, she has been plunged into the mind and body of young Captain Marvel herself in the year 1977! Will she manage to figure out the mystery of where she is and why? And will she be able to return to her home and her people? Stay tuned for the answers to these questions and more, on The Marvelous Durga and the Origins of Captain Marvel!
