Falling in Love with New Orleans – A Vows & Voyages Recap

From the moment I stepped off the plane and took in that first breath of humid, history-soaked air, I knew this trip to New Orleans would be unforgettable. Since Thursday, I’ve shared bits and pieces of the journey on social media, but NOLA deserves more than snippets—it deserves a love letter.

New Orleans isn’t just a destination—it’s a vibe.

It’s jazz echoing through the streets, the sweet scent of beignets floating from every corner café, and architecture that makes you stop mid-step just to soak it all in. Whether you’re dreaming of a long vacation, quick weekend getaway, honeymoon, or even a destination wedding, New Orleans has that rare ability to feel like home while offering something totally new.

At Vows & Voyages, inclusivity is at the heart of everything we do. New Orleans mirrors that beautifully. Here, everyone feels welcome—regardless of race, religion, or who you love. Oysters (which, full confession, pushed me out of my comfort zone), gumbo, jambalaya, catfish, muffulettas, and yes—those iconic beignets.

Every meal felt like its own celebration. The flavors here? Unreal.

The Architecture: A Love Letter to the Past.

Wrought-iron balconies, pastel buildings, flickering gas lamps, and cobblestone streets that hum with stories. From the Cathedral of St. Louis to tucked-away courtyards and hidden jazz spots, New Orleans is a photographer’s dream and a romantic’s playground.

Is NOLA Family-Friendly?

I get asked this a lot!

Personally, I wouldn’t bring young children. The city’s vibrant, a little wild, and best enjoyed by adults or maybe older teens who can appreciate the music, food, and culture.

Think PG-13 in the busier tourist areas. And yes, while marijuana use isn’t technically legal, it’s pretty common and overlooked in the more crowded areas. It’s all part of the anything-goes vibe that makes New Orleans unique—but something to keep in mind if traveling with family.

🌴 From Palm Trees to Paradise: Our Florida & Margaritaville Cruise Getaway

We just got back from a sun-soaked, saltwater-filled escape—and I can’t wait to share the highlights of our Florida trip and two-night Margaritaville at Sea Paradise cruise. If you’re looking for a quick, budget-friendly getaway that combines tropical vibes with convenience, this might be the perfect option for you.

Touchdown in Florida

We kicked things off by flying into West Palm Beach, arriving early enough to squeeze in some local sightseeing. A few must-dos before the cruise:

A quick stroll on the beach to shake off the travel day
A visit to Manatee Lagoon (no manatees this time, but still peaceful)
A stop at the Loggerhead Marinelife Center to see some amazing rescued sea turtles

Florida’s east coast always delivers, even for a short stay. The weather? Hot and humid—just the way we like it when beach time is on the itinerary.

All Aboard: Margaritaville at Sea Paradise

Our cruise left from the Port of Palm Beach and sailed to Nassau, Bahamas. The ship might not be a mega-liner, but it punches above its weight for a short voyage.

Highlights:

Room steward Ramadan was absolutely wonderful—kind, responsive, and always had a smile.
The food was surprisingly solid for a budget cruise. Dinner service felt laid-back but fun, with tropical flair in both the menu and the atmosphere.
We joined in on the “Cruising Ducks” scavenger hunt, which turned out to be way more fun than expected—especially for our teens!
Live music, island cocktails, and plenty of lounging space made it easy to relax and unplug.

A Day in Nassau

Docking in Nassau gave us a chance to:

Wander the colorful port market
Sample local snacks and Bahamian sodas
Hit the beach for a few hours of sun and swim
And yes, we managed to do it without overspending or overbooking tours!

Heading Home

The trip wrapped up with a smooth return to Florida. The cruise timing worked out perfectly: just enough to feel recharged, but not so long that we needed a vacation from the vacation.
