Educational Value:
Lesson 1 - The Earth Needs a Break
As humans, we are notoriously bad at recognizing our impact on those around us. Whether it’s other people, places, or things, our impact is so much more far-reaching than we could possibly imagine.
Lesson 2 - Reliance on Technology
Technology is amazing. It can do so many wonderful things and has allowed for incredible advances, like the ability for so many of us to work from home during this pandemic. But if it’s not managed, if technology is leaned on too much, it becomes a crutch we can’t walk without
Lesson 3 - Stay Curious, be Positive
Despite the fact that WALL-E is the last surviving robot on Earth tasked with cleaning up the mess, he still continues to wake up and do his job every day. He takes new items he discovers that intrigue him back to his “home” and gets excited about finding new things.
Inside Out
US, 2015
Synopsis:
A film about an 11-year-old girl named Riley who moves across the country from Minnesota to San Francisco with her parents. Riley experiences a transformation in her mind and in who she is as a person as she tries to adjust to her new life in San Francisco and to the difficult process of growing up. The viewer follows Riley’s five emotions, Joy, Sadness, Anger, Fear, and Disgust, on a journey in her mind to help her through her transition to adolescence, and to assist her in making what they think are the right decisions.
Educational Value:
It’s ok to be vulnerable. While not about mental illness, the film gets us to think about how to deal with feelings. Sadness is real, we can't get rid of it, and trying to suppress it leads to other problems. Allowing sadness to be expressed can let other people help us.
