Adult speaking Role. There are 2 Greeters per Shift. The Greeters welcome each vehicle to Bethlehem, request them to turn off their headlights, and provide a Program. The Greeters are dressed in costume outside the Performance area.
Adult Role. There are 2 Census Takers per Shift. One is a speaking Role who asks each vehicle how many people are entering Bethlehem for the census. The other sits in the Enrollment Booth to record the number of people in each car and keep a running Total of vehicles and people.
Non-speaking Role for an older Youth/young Adult female. There is 1 Nativity Angel per Shift. It requires standing on a platform using graceful slow arm motions celebrating Jesus’s birth. It is in the same scene as the Holy Family.
Non-speaking Role for a Child with an Adult, Youth, or Adult. There must be at least 3 Adult Shepherds in this scene per Shift. It requires standing. The Shepherds are gazing up at the Angels, while also keeping a close eye on the live sheep in the scene. It is in the same scene as Hillside Angels. It is ideal for Parents who want to watch their younger Angels.
Mary: Non-speaking Role for an older Youth/young Adult female. There is 1 Mary per Shift in the same scene as Gabriel. Requires sitting and looking up at Gabriel.
Gabriel: Non-speaking Role for older Youth/young Adult male. There is 1 Gabriel per Shift in the same scene as Mary. Requires dressing in an Angel costume and standing on a platform using graceful slow arm motions while looking at Mary.
Non-speaking Role for a Child/younger Youth who is at least 8 years old. There are 3 Hillside Angels per Shift. It requires dressing in an Angel costume and standing on a platform using graceful slow arm motions sharing the story of the birth of Jesus. It is in the same scene as Hillside Shepherds.
Non-speaking Role for a Youth female. There are 2 Palace Girls per shift. Requires sitting and attending to King Herod, offering grapes and fanning him.
Palace Guard: Non-speaking Role for a Youth male. There are 2 Palace Guards per Shift. Requires standing near King Herod
Non-speaking Role for an Adult male. There is 1 Herod per Shift. Requires sitting on a throne, with some standing allowed. Herod receives gifts from each Wise Men and directs the Palace Girls.
Non-speaking Role for an Adult male. There are 3 Wise Men per Shift. Requires standing, walking up stairs, and kneeling in front of King Herod while presenting a gift.
Speaking Role for an Adult male. There is 1 Rabbi per Shift. Requires standing in front of the Synagogue at the entrance of Bethlehem. Requires someone who can project loudly and reverently pray in Hebrew and/or English. The Prayer words are written on a scroll and not memorized.
Speaking Role for any age. There are 1-4 people assigned to a Shop per Shift based upon the Cast Member’s age and Shop size. Children under 12 must be in the same Shop with an Adult. It requires standing, but also offers sitting options. There are many different Shopkeepers selling goods throughout Bethlehem (Ex: Basket, Cloth, Pottery, Blanket, Brass, Food, Blacksmith, Village Well, Carpenter, Money Changer). The dialogue between the Shopkeepers and the Villagers buying/selling goods and sharing the Good news is what makes Bethlehem come alive! Suggested dialogue is provided and lines do not have to be memorized.
Speaking Role for Adult male and Adult female. There are 2 Inn Keepers per Shift. It requires standing in front of the Inn and dialogue with the Villagers turning them away from a full Inn.
Non-speaking Role for an older Youth or Adult male. There are 4 Roman Soldiers per Shift. There are 2 near the fire pit near the Enrollment Booth and 2 who patrol the streets of Bethlehem. Role requires standing and/or walking.
Speaking Role for any age. Children under 12 must be accompanied by an Adult. There are at least 45-50 or more Villagers per Shift. This is a perfect Role for families to perform together and appropriate for Young children. It requires standing and walking the streets of Bethlehem. The Villagers will be assigned to a specific side of the street in Bethlehem (Near or Far). The more Villagers, the better! The dialogue between the Shopkeepers and the Villagers buying/selling goods and sharing the Good news is what makes Bethlehem come alive! Suggested dialogue is provided and lines do not have to be memorized.
Non-speaking Role for a baby under 1 year old and the parents. There is one Holy Family per Shift. The Holy Family is in the very special Scene at the Nativity. Mary and Joseph can hold baby Jesus or place Jesus in the manger. Mary can stand or sit next to the manger and Joseph remains standing.
Non-speaking Role for an older Youth or Adult female. There is 1 Emergency Mary per Shift. This Role will dress in a Mary costume with a Shepherd costume over the Mary costume. If baby Jesus and Mary need to leave the Nativity Scene during a Shift, Emergency Mary will use the Nativity baby doll and join Joseph behind the manger.
Adult Role. There are 11-12 Scene Coordinators for each Performance. It requires standing, sitting, and walking indoors and outdoors. This Role is critical to helping Cast Members prepare for each Scene. They ensure Cast Members are present and signed in, help them get dressed in the correct Costume and accessories, ensure cast members understand the Scene instructions, and review the sample dialogue (if applicable). This Role will help with all Shift changes, which may require to go outside behind the Scene. This Role is provided specific training in advance.
Adult Role. There are at least 2 Costumers for each Performance. It requires standing and helping Cast Members get dressed and hanging up/sorting costumes after the Performance.
Traffic: Adult Role. There are at least 12 Traffic volunteers for each Performance. It requires standing and walking outside, directing traffic, and helping other volunteers cross the road from the parking lot across the street.
Bus Driver: Adult Role for someone who has received Union Bus Driver training and is authorized to drive a Union bus. There are at least 2 Bus Drivers for each Performance. This Role will pick up attendees in the Parking lot across the street and drive the Union bus through the Performance.
