Map of Desma - 10 myh
10 million years after seeding, Desma's inhabitants have managed to radiate and diversify throughout most of the planet by this time. It is still an infant world, but one where the spinach meadows are now manifested into more complex plains, bushlands and forests. The fauna itself shows a variety of different manifestations.
Snails diversify massively in sizes and ecologies in this planet. Not only small plant eaters, but we also observe large herbivores and omnivores on land, and some smaller species are dedicated carnivores and scavengers. Snails also became strange pioneers in the conquest of the marine realm, in their own strange manner.
Crabs may be the most diverse group, perhaps. Conquering the land like the insects and arachnids of our Earth, they occupy a variety of guilds, including specialized herbivores, voracious predators and scavengers. Burrowing forms exist abundantly as well as climbing ones, and some species venture to more arid desertic regions even. Aquatic forms also exist, including filter feeders, herbivores and other opportunists.
Desmans ancestrally abandoned their aquatic habits in response to the overall scarcity of aquatic food to begin with, only preferring to forage near humid regions anyway. Now, desmans are dominant terrestrial organisms, and the largest animals around in the environments they inhabit. Most of them are carnivores, feeding abundantly on snails and crabs, but they'll also prey other desmans. Aquatic forms have appeared again. Desmans range in size from shrew-sized mammals to massive dog-sized beasts foraging for any delicious supper. Only a small amount of species dabble in plant eating.
Continents:
Neoprimaria - The continent of Primaria split off into two in the last 10 million years. Neoprimaria is a rifting continent itself, filled with peninsulas at its coastlines and various isthmus from the rifts. Ranging from the northern to the southern hemisphere, it harbours a big diversity of biomes and therefore also a big array of fauna and flora.
Eoprimaria - The western counterpart of Neoprimaria, sitting in the northern hemisphere, almost touching Meospera in the southwestern tip of the continent. It is colonized by desmans, crabs and snails.
Meospera - The Hespera continent also split in two, with the western Meospera sitting in the equatorial region and its northern part nearly contacting Eoprimaria. Ancestrally an invertebrate land, desmans managed to make the cross to Meospera very recently, through rafting.
Primespera - The eastern counterpart of Meospera. This one is a more isolated southern landmass, where desmans have not yet reached, so it still remains an invertebrate domain.
Austra - A smaller, southern continent, typically much colder.
Io - A small northern continent colonized only by snails.
Oceans and seas:
Thala - A giant ocean that bathes Neoprimaria, Austra, Io and Meospera.
Oura - A northeastern ocean that bathes Io and and the primarian landmasses.
Rippa - A northwestern ocean that separates Eoprimaria and Neoprimaria.
Convara - A southern ocean that bathes southern Neoprimaria, Primespera and Austra.
Soda - An austral ocean that bathes the hesperian landmasses.
Labiria - A labyrinth of seaways that separate the primarian and hesperian landmasses.
Caraba - An eastern equatorial gulf of Neoprimaria.
Yre - A narrow seaway that is interrupted by the neoprimarian isthmus.
Oya - A northeastern bay of Neoprimaria.
Traka - A small sea filled with islands west to Eoprimaria.
Islands:
Ira - The largest island of Desma, formed by a strip of land that split off eastern Primespera, and sandwiched between it and Neoprimaria. It is colonized by crabs and snails.
Moiotta - A small island south to Meospera.
Nealva - A peculiar island, north to Austra, where only invertebrates live.
Kamista - A small frigid southern island.
Frigia - An antarctic southern island located south to Kamista.
Traippa - A small frigid island south to Austra.
Pinna - An island to the southeast of Austra.
Waya - One of the islands east of southern Neoprimaria.
Praia - One of the islands east of southern Neoprimaria.
Raia - One of the islands east of southern Neoprimaria.
Yutchy - A junction of the ancient islands Yu and Butchy, located in Caraba.
Laiabba - An island in Traka.
Ye - An island in Traka.
Wa - An island in Traka.
Proio - An island west to Ceua.
Oba - An island of Traka.
Obe - An island east of Oba.
Ceua - An island to the northwest of Meospera.
Maya - An island west to Meospera, colonized by invertebrates.
Taura - An island west to Meospera, colonized by invertebrates.
