My life has been shaped through nutrition and physical activity. After my college baseball career was completed, coaching entered my life and I was lucky enough to coach multiple sports on the youth, high school and college levels, but I wanted more. I've always been and athlete so becoming a health & physical education teacher seemed to be a natural fit. I loved every second of being in the gym and health room with my students. I started presenting at multiple conventions and workshops, was asked to be on the team to revise and rewrite the NJ state standards for health & PE, and was our school's teacher of the year. But I still wanted more. I found Fuel Up To Play 60 and became a Hall of Fame Program Advisor. I was able to travel around the country helping teachers and students find new ways to make their schools healthier. I had a chance to meet some amazing professional athletes and even perform on stage at the 50 yard line at AT &T stadium, the home of the Dallas Cowboys! But I still wanted more. I became a sports performance coach training high school and college athletes, which led to me writing articles for Livestrong.com and Stack.com. And yes, I still wanted more. For years, my principal had been talking to me about moving into the administrative arena, but I wasn't sure if it was for me. I didn't know if I had what it took to be on the other side of the desk. That would mean stepping out of my comfort zone and putting myself out there for possible failure. Trusting her judgement I got my supervisor certification just in case something might pop up, and it did. I was able to take a temporary position as the Acting Dean of Student (in lieu of a Vice Principal) in another middle school within my district. It would only be for 4 months, then I would return to my school as a health & PE teacher. It was the perfect way for me to gauge if I wanted to go deeper into the world outside of the classroom. I didn't even bother cleaning out my office. I started in the new position and was completely overwhelmed, but slowly started falling in love with all of it. I was asked if I was interested in staying and I couldn't say yes quick enough! But that meant going back to school again to receive my principal certification. I completed that program and was immediately hired as the new Assistant Principal. After a few years there my district moved me to a new school on the elementary level. This was an entirely new challenge, but one I was more than ready to take on! And while all of this had been going on, I was still helping people as a life coach. I've now moved on to a new district and I'm back on the middle school level! Where is all of this going to end up? Who knows! This has been a long, and winding road but so much fun along the way. The ride is just beginning, thanks for jumping on board and seeing this thing through with me! I guarantee, its going to be fun!
