A Rainbow, a 7-curved multi-colored splendor in the blue sky, an arc in the clouds is always a wonderful sight to cherish. Usually making its appearance after the rain, it has its own admirers. With hardly a fixed spot to reveal itself, it is difficult to determine where the rainbow's two ends are resting each time it appears. Who would want to delve that deep when a clear view of the rainbows in the sky is itself a treasure hunt? Not a precious diamond or a costly collection in a museum or a beautiful tourist attraction, still it can excite anyone with a glimpse of it. Who can fix its price as it is in the control of no one? We do not have to pay a price, yet it is so fascinating that nobody would wait to quickly capture the rainbows in their smartphones or take a selfie with it. Rare things have always been very precious and exciting. It's because it's so unusual and hard to find. From the time we understood that rainbows are next in the queue after the rain, we have been searching to get a clear glimpse of them. Only a few people were fortunate enough to see the rainbow in person.
We know that the existence of a rainbow is short-lived in the clouds. A specific purpose is hidden behind the multi-colored arc to reveal itself during the monsoon season. We had learned the science about the rainbows in our school days, but the history of rainbows remains unknown. There is always a story hidden behind every unique event. A rainbow might seem completely normal, but it has a historical significance behind its appearance in the clouds. What is the mystery behind the first rain? Do you know that the rainbow has a backstory? What gave rise to the first appearance of rainbows? Does the rainbow has a special message to share, or is it a sign of something it wishes to portray every time it appears on the clouds? Is there anything that happened in the past for rainbows to appear after the rain?
To know the history behind the first appearance of a rainbow, we need to understand a term called ‘Generation'. People from the same generation are those who are born at the same time. A single generation could be around 20-30 years as of today’s time, which is the time from the birth of a parent to the birth of a child. Grandfather, father, and child are people belonging to 3 generations. We will traverse to a time in the flashback when the people from the 10th generation were living on earth. Many drastic changes have happened during different times in the history. One such was the covid-19 which occurred unexpectedly and caused extreme lifestyle changes that we could never have predicted. A similar type of event occurred when Earth had only 10 generations of people living on it, giving birth to the first appearance of rainbows. If we consider the first man on Earth to be the first generation, then the people in the 10th generation are his 10th descendants and people born alongside his 10th descendant. Let's look into what exactly happened during those times that resulted in the permanent occurrence of the natural phenomenon.
The incident is centered around a family belonging to the 10th generation. The man called ‘Noah’ is the storyteller here, or rather the one from whose perspective we will find the mystery behind the rainbows. He and his wife, their three sons, and their wives were the people in his family. People of those times did not regard him as a fun-loving person. He was not involved in the activities that were defined as fun by them. This distinguishes him from them and makes him rightly qualified for the event, which would change the way earth existed before, introducing something new, that would continue for generations to come. The definition of fun for them involved everything that had a wrong consequence. In contrast to Noah, who was kind, compassionate, honest, faithful. and someone, who was known by his good deeds, the rest of the people were violent, selfish, cruel, and corrupt. Their thoughts and intentions were lustful, inhumane, horrifying, and evil. They crossed all limits of wrongdoing. Envy, anger, bloodshed, corruption and violence were on the rise. The wickedness of humans was great on earth. If few were involved in such activities, a place called prison could control them, but what if all people on the earth, except one family, are busy harming each other? They could not even discern that, with their actions, they were destroying themselves. Have you ever heard of the creator who made this world, regret and deeply grieve for creating humans on planet earth? Humans’ extremely evil actions even made that possible. But a sigh of relief was ‘Noah’ through whom the creator thought to continue the human race.
Continuing the human race with the wicked people would not do any good to the earth or the people. Instead the earth will face even more damage. So the end of evil humans was planned, indirectly to put an end to the evil they practice. Still, one last option was kept open to them. Here, even the wrongdoers could save themselves by selecting the correct option. Soon after that, the people who made fun of Noah for his good deeds got another chance to mock him again. Noah was building a huge ship-like structure called the ‘Ark’. He explained to the people that a flood was about to come and would destroy everyone on the earth, including animals, birds, and creeping creatures, and no one will survive except the ones who would enter the ark to protect themselves. This ark was very huge, with a length of around 450 feet, a width of 75 feet, and a height of 45 feet, and it had 3 decks like floors in a building. He coated the ark with pitch or bitumen for waterproofing. The ark’s structure was different unlike a ship's, as it was built to be stable and to have the greatest capacity to carry huge goods. How could they believe this news, which was the result of their evil deeds, if they couldn't accept that their actions were corrupt and horrible?
Before Noah started to build the ark, he was 500 years old, as, in those times, people lived longer, unlike today. Humans’ average lifespan was around 700-900 years those times. Noah was about to turn 600 years, and the ark was going to be ready for the journey. It took 100 years not only to build the ark, but also to remind the masses of the life-deciding future event. By then, they would have gotten bored by hearing the news of the upcoming flood again and again. If something does not happen in a short period of time, it appears to be fake news. No one would have had that much patience and endurance to believe something for around 100 years unless it was not Noah and his family. These many years were spent for two reasons, firstly, because only 8 people were involved in building such a huge ark, and secondly, so that the people might believe the news and save themselves from getting destroyed by the flood. To protect themselves, the people did not have to do any hard work of helping Noah to cut wood and build the ark, but the only thing they had to do was to pack their bags, take their family, enter the ark already built and stay safe.
The ark was ready for the ride after a long haul. Noah and his family entered the ark. Every being that lives on the land outside the ark will be destroyed. So following the instructions, Noah took one pair of male and female of all animals and birds and creeping creatures into the ark to keep their species alive after the flood. He also carried all types of food for the beings inside the ark. After 100 years of notifying the people about the flood, the expectation was, even if not everyone but at least some of them would respond positively. After a huge halt, the ark waited 7 more days for the rest of the people to change their decisions and enter the ark. But all in vain, they gave a deaf ear. They were busy mocking Noah for his actions of entering the ark along with so many beings, and a huge amount of food and thought that he had gone crazy and gone about doing their own business. At the end of 7 days, the door of the ark was shut.
Finally, after 7 days of waiting, the news Noah received by divine encounter with the creator turned out to be true. For the first time, drops of water from the sky began to wet the earth's surface. Rain fell for the first time on the earth. The intensity of the rain increased. It seemed like all the waters hidden below the earth and above the heavens were released in one go. The thunder roared, and lightning flashed across the sky. Rains continued for 40 days and 40 nights non-stop, along with undersea earthquakes and tsunamis. Floodwaters filled the earth. There was so much water that even the tops of the high hills and mountains were not visible. In today’s time, 3 days of non-stop rain can give us a devastating experience. Imagine what 40 days of non-stop rain could have done? Late realization is of no good to anyone. Humans, animals, birds, and all other beings which live on the land do not find any resources to live or rely on for their survival and have to face their end. Floodwaters entirely wiped out all life on earth outside the ark.
A simple thing could have saved their lives. Just entering the ark could have changed their destiny. If only they had looked around and observed the surroundings and tried to understand and find out why Noah would invest so much of his energy in building the huge ark and thought about it, they would have saved their lives. 100 year of warning even could not help them change their decisions.
The ark and the beings inside it did not face any danger because Noah’s ark rested on top of a mountain. They were all safe inside the ark. The water on the earth started to reduce little by little after 150 days. One year has passed since the 'one and only' family entered the ark. Noah was now 601 years old, which proves the fact. It could have been quite difficult for them to stay in the ark for a year, but to protect their life from destruction, this was necessary, just like how we had to follow the lockdown measures during the destructive pandemic for around 2 years and stay indoors. After a year, the earth completely dried, and the family came out of the ark with all the beings.
They thanked God for keeping them safe in these dangerous times. And now is the time for the multi-colored arc to come into the picture. Before the one and only family continued their lives outside the ark again, they received a promise. This promise was not only for that family but for all the future beings who will reside on the earth after them. But who was it giving them the promise, as there were no humans left on the earth other than the only family? The promise giver was the one who was powerful enough to create, build, control and rule the earth and its residents. It was none other than the creator Himself. He introduced something new on the earth as He has the power to alter things on the earth, and this new feature will follow for years till the earth exists. And it was the introduction of ‘Rainbow After the Rain’.
Why was this new feature ‘rainbow’ required? The Rainbow was introduced as a sign of the promise that the creator made with the beings of the earth. The Promise statement goes like this: “Never again will God destroy all living beings of planet earth altogether with a flood as it happened that time. Until earth exists, seasons, seed- sowing and harvest, day and night will continue”. From then on, the rainbow started to appear in the clouds after every rain according to God's promise to mankind. So whenever God would bring clouds over the earth and the rainbow shall be seen in the clouds, He will remember His promise and will not allow the waters to cause a flood to destroy the entire earth, as happened with the first rain. It is also a reminder of God controlling the earth. This is the reason why the rainbow appears after every rain to remind people of the creator's promise to them.
The surprising part is the later statement, which says even if human intention and imagination are wrong, harmful, and evil from a young age, God won’t destroy all humans together by a flood. He will allow humans to continue to live on earth, till earth has run its course. What does that mean by earth running its course? Earth is given a set amount of time to exist. This time limit is set to allow people on Earth to review their actions and make changes to those that are unproductive and harmful. Till that time limit, humans can live safely, but there will be a time when the earth itself will get destroyed because of increasing evil. When that happens, where will humans go? When we look at the earth today, we see natural disasters, extreme heat and cold, pandemics, famines, droughts, wars, cyclones, and other events that indicate the earth will soon face its end.
As far as the rainbow assures safety, it also ensures the end. The rainbow symbolizes how evil can cause unexpected dangers to strike the earth. Even a 100-year warning was insufficient to save them, and we are not even guaranteed 100 years of survival on Earth today. We must look around to see what nature is trying to tell us. Hints are all around us; we only need to do a little digging to figure out what will happen in the coming days. People in Noah's time turned a deaf ear and a blind eye to what was going around them because they believed they only had one life and should do whatever pleased them instead of thinking about its consequence.
The rainbow appears so many times a year to remind us of the message that, just as the entire earth was destroyed in the 10th generation, the earth will face its final end very soon, for the obvious reason that the evil practiced today is much greater than it was in those days. The wise will undoubtedly want to know if there is an ark that will protect and preserve them in the last days. There are many 'Noahs' in the world today trying to warn and share the message of protection with the people, but they fall on deaf ears.
The God who promised the rainbows as a sign of protection has also promised to put an end to the evil-filled earth, so if this article has opened your eyes, do not ignore the ‘Noahs’ around you and secure your spot in the ark right away. His predictions about the destruction of the earth will also come true soon, just as His promise of rainbows does not fail to appear after every rain.
So, the next time you capture the rainbow either with your smartphone or with your eyes, do remind yourselves of the backstory of the rainbow and push yourselves to do good to each other. Do think about giving up those practices that hurt or trouble each other, society, or the globe because evil has an end, and evil must end somewhere.
After the first flood, a significant change also took place in the lives of the people on the earth along with the appearance of rainbows. We will discuss this new modification that occurred in the people's lives, in the next blog.
