As human beings, we have a specific way of evolving on this planet Earth. Born as tiny beings, we develop little by little each year and achieve a state where we can call ourselves grown-ups or adults. As adults, we can make our own decisions to make our lives better as we go ahead. It would have been great if we had grown till eternity, but the reality contradicts our expectations. Just as we grow up, little by little, hale and hearty, wealthy and wise, slowly we have to lose it all and someday reach a point where we lose everything and finally even stop existing. We lose ourselves in such a way that our entire life becomes just a memory or some ink on sheets of paper. But don't you think that life is unfair to us? All the dreams that we have achieved, all the loving people that we have met, all the great legacies that we have built—we have to leave them all, never to meet them again anymore. The enormous man-made inventions, that made life look so easy, cannot even help lives to never end.
It is not just the case of humans, but other forms of life are also not spared either. Living beings around us including cattle, beasts, birds, sea creatures, plants, and trees, all have a similar pattern of growing and attaining maturity. However, they too fail to exist someday, succumbing in a short period. Sir Isaac Newton questioned the falling of an apple from a tree, but we never thought why an apple that grew so beautifully could only stay fresh for a few days and then become rotten and spoilt, causing an end to its life. The trees can remain rooted in their place for a longer period than the fruits, flowers, herbs, and greens but they too are not permanent members of this Earth.
If this wasn't enough for us to comprehend, the term renovation demonstrates this fact in a different dimension. Renovation refers to the process of renewing or restoring something back to its original condition. The concrete structures have promised us ultimate comfort for around 50-60 years and at the most 100 years. But within five years of construction, these structures start showing signs of damage and require renovation. Thus, even inanimate things cannot last long without getting damaged. A piece of solid evidence for this has to be the expiry date check that we do every time we buy products from the supermarkets. Every product we pick from those shelves makes it clear that life is unlimited for no one. Limit is constant even for non-living things on planet earth and everyone have to say goodbye some or the other day.
So life goes around making, repairing, and disposing of things that we cannot use anymore and replacing the former. We never questioned the short span of existence of the living and non-living things on the earth. We failed to ask ourselves why the animate and inanimate things of the earth do not stay healthy and strong all the time and never get ruined. Our mindset was to believe that anything that exists on the earth has to leave someday. We are unable to think of a world where everything stays alright all the time. We never asked why so many generations of people have to leave the earth for new ones to replace them. We never stressed this fact but accepted the things as they were because we thought that it is the natural process of this earth as we believe the famous saying which goes like this – Nothing Is Permanent On This Earth. This saying seems to have some logic, as it talks about the connection between the two entities. The entity ‘Nothing’ comprises living beings and non-living things. Another entity is the host earth, which does not allow anyone to stay permanently on it. Could this be possible if the things and beings of the earth had another place of existence, they would have lived longer or had a never-ending life? Can this be true that the reason for the short span of existence of the things on the earth is because of where they exist?
Now when we have got the concept that anything existing on the earth has to end someday, we would want to know the reason behind it. It must not amaze us to realize that the earth that has sheltered lives for years is itself in great danger. How could it allow the animate and inanimate things to stay permanently on it when the earth itself does not have the privilege of existing forever? Along with all the inhabitants, the earth is moving forward to a time where it may itself stop existing. Pandemics, famines, droughts, earthquakes, wars, scarcity, cyclones, volcanic eruptions, climatic changes, etc. are tossing the earth one after the other. For the past 20 years, the above disasters have increased in a great measure. All these are leading the earth closer to its expiry date. Just as a human being, suffering from prolonged illness, one after the other, will eventually lose his immunity, causing organ failures, and finally, stop existing, likewise, the destruction earth is facing will slowly lead to its very end. This concludes that the life that we so happily cherish on this earth is not leading us to betterment, instead guiding us gradually into the road of extinction.
I would like to end this blog with a question to ponder upon,
WHY THE EARTH ALONG WITH ITS ANIMATE AND INANIMATE THINGS IS ON THIS SLOW PATH OF DESTRUCTION?
