Kapwa is a core Filipino cultural value that reminds us we are all connected to each other. It is about shared humanity, mutual responsibility, and the understanding that strong communities are built through relationships—not just good intentions. At its core, kapwa asks a simple question:
How do we take care of each other, right where we live?
Hey neighbor! I’m AC (she/her). I am a PreK–12 educator, a PhD student, a university adjunct, and most importantly, the mother of two young children. My dissertation research focuses on early childhood, family studies, and disability justice, currently exploring how young children, families, and communities engage in reciprocal care to nurture collective well-being. The Kapwa Project grows from this work beyond the university. It is a small effort to strengthen our community and make care practical and accessible for all. This website serves as a resource hub for families and educators in NE Seattle and a starting point for neighbor-to-neighbor mutual aid, safety, and support. This project is intentionally local, relational, and evolving. It’s less about having all the answers and more about sharing what’s useful, staying informed, and showing up for one another.
I am committed to supporting our community by offering research-informed resources, spaces for courageous conversations, and opportunities to build local connections grounded in empathy, shared responsibility, and neighborly love. I look forward to connecting with you!
