What is UpstyleFunk?

"I'm a hair stylist and I am passionate about Creative Hair. I specialise in hairstyles for all occasions. Whether it be simply a girls night out and you want a fabulous mane of curls, or its your wedding day, the most amazing day of your life."

Where do you work?

"I'm from the Slane area but I travel to the venue of clients choice which is often Johnstown. Whether that's the wedding location, hotels or the comfort of your own home. Distance isn't really an issue and neither is the time or day of the week. I can be available 24hrs and 7 days of the week."

Why did you start your own business?

"I worked for many years as a PA to a fashion designer and I loved the industry and everything about fashion. With 2 daughters of my own I've had many years of experience styling and keeping up with new trends and whether it was 'up' or 'down' styles I've had the experience. I found myself busy styling hair at home, for friends, for family and then their friends that I got well known as the person to ask. It seamed a natural thing to move into that I really enjoy."

You've gained professional experience and training.

"Although I knew that I could manage and style hair I didn't feel that I could charge people without having a formal qualification. It just didn't sit right and so I gained experience in Tallagh and soon will have my QQI level 5 specialising in Creative Upstyling."

Do you often work alongside Make Up Artists?

"Yes, very often. Sometimes I get a call to be booked for a confirmation, graduation or wedding and the client doesn't have a makeup artist arranged so it's great to be able to recommend a friend I trust to do a good job and we work together to achieve the final look and as importantly ensure the client enjoys the experience.

We now promote each other and often offer a package deal."
