Having a Make Up Artist among us is an obvious opportunity to find out more for a magazine article. It's true that we Men have absolutely no understanding of the time, skill and effort women go through to attain the perfect look and so it’ll come as no surprise that i needed to research some fundamentals about 'M.U.A'. I therefore turned to the two ladies of my house for advice, guidance and even translation in these matters before interviewing our Resident 'Make Up Artist' Aoife Donne.
It must be many young girls dream job to be involved in the glamour of theatre, film, weddings, parties and red carpet events. Any occasion to really dress up, to put on the shoes, the accessories, create a look or style, make up and and handbag.....there's a list of essentials. To be a part of that process for a special occasion requires not only experience, natural flair and talent but an eye for detail, imagination and huge trust.
We asked our resident Make up artist to tell us more about how she discovered her business:
"Hi, I’m Aoife & I am a self confessed Beauty Addict!
When I finished school, I Studied Beauty Therapy for 2 years & achieved International & Irish accreditation for this. I trained in all aspects to include Waxing, Tinting, Body Treatments i.e. Massage, Facials etc. Afterwards I worked as a Beautician but I soon realised that I really was more interested in the Makeup side of things.
I got a Christmas job in Arnotts Dept Store working for Yves Saint Laurent, I loved this. I then got a permanent job with Dior, I loved doing Makeovers & we were always busy with events, customer evenings etc..I then became Manager for Givenchy in Arnotts.
Life took me in a different direction for a few years & 2 young children came along. I missed makeup & also wanted to be around more for my children so I decided to brush up on my skills & I Studied Fashion Theatre & Media Makeup. There are so many aspects of makeup artistry, Special effects, photographic to include a few and it can truly be a gratifying job.
I work as a Freelance makeup artist .I do makeup for all occasions including weddings, Debs, Hen Parties & nights out.
What I love most about being a Makeup Artist is my ability to empower and help women feel better about themselves. I have a Passion for makeup & its ability to transform you. Now I am beginning to build my freelance business around that passion."
