Apple’s new iPhone 13 series is here, but iPhone 12 is still technically the best iPhone you can buy right now.
The iPhone 13 is available for preorder now, but it won’t be fully released until September 24.
We’re confident that the iPhone 13 will replace the iPhone 12 as the best overall iPhone to buy for most people.

With eight iPhone models available through Apple, from the new iPhone 12 to the more than two-year-old iPhone 11, there are plenty of options out there for Apple fans. Luckily, the new features in iOS 15 — such as the ability to fine-tune notifications, spatial audio in FaceTime, and live text recognition among many others — will be available on all of the phones in this list.
While the iPhone 13 series is available to preorder now, and will be fully released on September 24, we’re still saying the iPhone 12 is the best option for most people for now. And to go even further, we’d actually recommend holding off on buying any new iPhone at the moment until the iPhone 13 reviews come out. Your buying decision could be affected by reviews — for example, you might find that the iPhone 12 will be all the phone you really need rather than buying the new iPhone 13.
Like most purchasing decisions, which model is right for you largely depends on your needs when it comes to pricing, size options, and features.
In addition to helping you choose the right iPhone model, we’ll also tell you which models you should stay away from.
Here’s a quick look at our top recommendations:
For most people, the iPhone 12, which got a $100 price cut from $799 to $699, is still the best iPhone overall for most people until we can safely say after reviewing it that the iPhone 13 can take over.
The 2020 iPhone SE is the cheapest iPhone you can buy at $400, and it’s also one of the smallest.
Apple still sells the iPhone11, and it’s a tempting purchase with its new price tag. It now costs $499, and for that price you’re easily getting the best value for an iPhone.
