Did you know? In 1897, the main building on Ellis Island burned down. No lives were lost but thousands of records dating back to original immigrants in 1885 burned along with the building. Today, Ellis Island has an impressive database of accounted immigrants but many of the original stories are lost. Here, we aim to keep the stories of local, national, and international immigrants alive both past and present.
