What is Brio? Why Brio?
What is Brio? Why Brio?
The word is used to described the Peruvian Paso. It is an intangible quality, difficult to describe. You have to see and experience to truly understand. Often Brio is described loosely in English as the spirit, heart and carriage of the horse. Breeders and judges look for this characteristic in the Peruvian Paso.
Brio transforms an ordinary horse into the extraordinary. We want to raise horses with precisely the liveliness and showmanship that is seen in the Peruvian Paso - horses that would willingly place these characteristics in the service of the rider.
With this in mind, we select horses that when evaluated, scored a Silver or higher rating. Stallions that are rated Star or Bronze are gelded, and mares that are rated Star or Bronze are less likely to be bred. We do save up to 3 straws from the geldings, in case you wish to request a breeding, but the horse may not carry the Brio prefix.
The Foundations
Our mission is to provide every horse with an optimal foundation for life. At Brio, our virtual horses embark on their journey starting with Dressage, focusing on enhancing balance, muscle development, fitness, and flexibility. The Dressage training accentuates essential aspects of a horse's education, encompassing responsiveness to subtle cues from the rider—
whether through leg, seat, or rein signals—and fostering a willing forward movement. As each horse possesses a distinctive personality and style, their progression unfolds organically, allowing them to develop in accordance with their individual traits and attributes.

Every girl has fallen for the Friesian. I don't claim to have a different story. My first love just deepened and grew into an adoration of all Baroque horses.
You may challenge my love of Baroque with the gaited breeds, of course, but my love of those horses started with the Baroque horses that were gaited, therefore, my love story here is written as it developed, starting with the Iberian horses, and progressing to encompass many, many other breeds - beginning with the Spanish horses and those from the Iberian Peninsular.
