On October 20, 2025, the Star Wars fandom was shocked by an interview with Adam Driver by the Associated Press, announcing a secret film that was in the works for the past two years, which failed to get the green-light from Disney. According to a post made by Steven Soderbergh, this was the first time Disney had turned down a project from LucasFilm that had a fully developed script, including a design sprint made by Bobby McKenna.

Originally, Kathleen Kennedy, president of LucasFilm, had approached Adam Driver with the idea. After coming up with a concept, Driver went to Steven Soderbergh to develop a script. LucasFilm Ltd. executives unanimously loved the script and went on to hire screenwriter Scott Z. Burns, who was paid more than any other screenwriter in LucasFilm history, according to an article by The Playlist. Despite LucasFilm giving the green-light to the script, it was Disney executives that turned down the script on the premise of not understanding how Ben Solo could still be alive after Episode IX.

You may have seen many Star Wars posts accompanied by a blue butterfly. Ben Solo has been associated with the butterfly since the release of the Star Wars animated short series Roll Out. The story follows Han and Ben Solo on a mission where Ben releases the trapped critters. Although the series is not considered canon, the motif of butterfly was here to stay. The logo for Bluesky was inspired by the multitude of posts using the blue butterfly emoji.

Blue butterflies have also been used to represent the Force in a Darth Vader comic and with Grogu in the Madalorian.
