Gaurav has continued to find art for the program to ensure it's aesthetically pleasing.
Alexis has finished the base map design and now has to place the locations on the map and add their descriptive text
Gaurav has been reading the case studies closely and finding stock images we can use within the program to provide a more aesthetically pleasing program.
Gaurav has found and organized some stock photos the team can use for placeholders in the GameMaker program. He has ensured they are all transparent and fit the descriptions provided in The Heights. He has uploaded these to the team's Google Drive.
Alexis has continued to work on the GameMaker programming, specifically getting the map to have more content and filters like the original.
Alexis has worked on the dialog box system so now they spawn in a certain place with specific text. She has also added the main map area which successfully transports the user to the location they click on within the map. Alexis has worked with the team to gather components of The Heights to be transferred to GameMaker.
She has begun transferring case study scenarios as well as crafting a dialogue box system for the program. Currently, the dialogue box pops up when the user clicks within the current scene they are playing in. Alexis will work to make it so that certain dialogue boxes appear when you interact with certain characters and options so that the system acts more conversational.
Alexis has worked with various faculty members at Wurzweiler to provide the team with access to The Heights on Canvas. She did so and worked to create an instruction manual that was sent out to the other team members so now all members have access.
She has also shared the Gamemaker file and github directory with the other team members in the Discord server she created so now all team members have access to the gamemaker file. She has begun watching tutorials to begin refamiliarizing herself with the software the team will be using.
Alexis has created a GameMaker file for The Heights to be transferred to. She has also created a github repository and invited her teammates to it as well as pushing the initial Gamemaker file she created.
Along with this, Alexis has created the base template for design documents that the team will be using in future processes.
None of the team members have received access to the Canvas site hosting The Heights yet and so Alexis will be reaching out via email if they do not have access by noon EST today.
Alexis & Gaurav had a meeting with our clients based in New York! We created a discord for the students to work on and were told we will be receiving access to the Canvas soon.
We discussed what we will be doing moving forward with this project and have determined our role as transporting The Heights off of Canvas and onto a different platform. While doing this Alexis and Gaurav will be looking in to game elements (specifically of the RPG genre) to add into The Heights to make it more engaging.
Alexis and Gaurav have prepared for their team meeting tomorrow by creating documents with their Comps, Ideas, Questions, and Concerns. They have also progressed in getting access to Canvas and continued to brainstorm ways to implement more interactivity into The Heights.
Alexis has continued to study potentially useful mechanics and design strategies for The Heights. She mainly focused on comprehending the differences between Game-based learning and Gamification and understanding which approach may provide a more useful lense for the project.
Gaurav and Alexis also had a meeting today and discussed daily workloads, comps, and future research. We also continued contact with our sponsor team to create a meeting ASAP. :)
