Our mission is to decode the complexity of natural biosynthetic pathways and re-engineer them to solve pressing challenges in human health.Â
1. Synthetic Biology and Genetic Circuit Design
We design and construct precision genetic circuits to achieve spatiotemporal control over gene expression. By developing modular biological "parts," we aim to engineer smart cell factories capable of synthesizing complex molecules with high efficiency and purity, providing fundamental technical support for biomanufacturing.
2. Natural Product Discovery and Biosynthesis
A core focus of our lab is the exploration of Biosynthetic Gene Clusters (BGCs). We are particularly interested in the catalytic mechanisms of key enzymes in specialized metabolism. Our goal is to identify novel bioactive secondary metabolites through genome mining and optimize their production via metabolic engineering for efficient heterologous synthesis.
3. Next-Generation Drug Development
We integrate synthetic biology tools with traditional pharmaceutical sciences to develop innovative drug delivery systems and therapeutic candidates. This research includes engineering microbes for in situ drug production within the body and designing bio-inspired delivery vehicles to significantly enhance drug bioavailability and targeting.
