Dear New England
A strange feeling rises to the minds of our people. We seek to recover what is being lost daily, yet no question is asked of those who make such decisions. The spirit of New England is bright and fiery, owing to our rebellious forefathers, who left old England to seek freedom and adventure. They also brought with them the art and sophistication of the old world, coupled with their tenacity to survive in the harsh new world conditions. They Built great towns and cities of beauty with native stones, woods, and clay creating scenes much like ancient Britannia. Horizons dotted with rolling hills of hardwoods, pines, and bucolic farmland blanketed this charming land. Today, we share the same ingenuity as old New England, yet our flames for urgency glow dim like a hollow ember losing its fuel. We make strides in new discoveries within science and healthcare that change the world, yet our home lies in critical condition.
We do not build like we used to and neither manage for the longevity of our hearts and minds. For healthy and prosperous people, you require safety and beauty to be present in their lives. It is not enough to maintain and preserve the remaining backbone of old New England. The last farms that provide food for our people, the scattered open space giving much-needed habitat for wildlife and recreation, and the final gems of historic masonry and carpentry present in the last buildings of great New England. We are stewards and protectors of all of our land, with a duty to it ingrained in our hearts. We must cease soulless development that can not be distinguished. Such faceless boxes of glass and concrete are found from Boston to Shanghai. Our cities are the bastions of democracy, Boston the birthplace of the revolution, Providence the city founded on the basis for freedom of religion and thought, and Hartford the former pearl of the East Coast, once rivaling San Francisco in wealth and beauty. All cities of New England must ensure and enforce that all buildings serve as bastions of American Beauty. Great classical stone townhouses, and brick and mortar developments, all serving as the epitome of Western Civilization, built by the resources provided in this great land, and work of its laborers and artists.
To the towns of New England, do not be afraid to put your heritage in the forefront, creating new village homes near historic town centers, built in the spirit of New England. Protect and provide new farmsteads for families in town willing to tend the ancient soil, and cease the endless devouring of sprawl and asphalt.
By reviving such building and management practices, it will ensure new jobs for tens of thousands, new beautiful homes and worksites for millions and it will serve as a key example of sustainable development. Such structures will last generations, ensuring the upfront investment is paid for in full. With infrastructure, the simplest things like lampposts and gutters must be crafted and installed with details showcasing the full splendor of New England and Western civilization. By ensuring bridges, bollards, and all in-between build a beautiful environment for our people, we create a place that honors our forefathers, fulfills our duty to this land, and ensures recognition by the world for our efforts. Together, we the people of New England shall go forward for sustainability, our duty, and our heritage.
