The subject of fixed taxes is very sensitive in the present world, especially when the companies are on the move. It has become a prerequisite to manage the organizations and to follow all the regulations since the implementation of Value Added Taxation (VAT) in United Arab Emirates in the year 2018. Currently, marketing in Dubai is one of the most developed in the region and businesses cannot afford large errors.
That is why accounting firms in Abu Dhabi become extremely important at this step. It is in this blog that we speak of the importance of VAT consultation in Dubai, why it is important to deal with a qualified agency in this field, and why this path is useful for your business.
1. Understanding VAT Regulations
Value Added Tax, or VAT is a consumption tax is levied upon the concept of value additions that transpire in the course of production or circulation. The normal VAT rate applied in the United Arab Emirates is 5 percent. However, that might sound easy; value-added tax laws are challenging to impose because they are couched in relative pecuniary flexibility, which changes with respect to the business, sector, and type of transaction.
Businesses that don't have a thorough understanding of local tax rules find handling VAT compliance to be a nightmare. The VAT consulting organizations situated in the United Arab Emirates are skilled at understanding the specifics of these laws. An accounting company in Abu Dhabi will assist your company in managing these complexities and staying up to date on any modifications or new decisions issued by the Federal Tax Authority.
2. Decreasing the Threat of Non-Compliance
Value Added Tax laws impose hefty fines, penalties, and occasionally even legal consequences for noncompliance. Missed deadlines and inaccurate VAT filing are just two examples of mistakes that will cost your business severely. Even small mistakes might result in significant financial loss and harm to your company's image.
By working with an accounting company in Abu Dhabi, you may reduce the risks of non-compliance in this regard. You will receive registration guidance, exact return preparation, and records that properly adhere to legal requirements from a group of tax professionals. In order for you to properly handle compliance issues and avoid missing any deadlines, they will also offer extra assistance. Your company will avoid costly errors and maintain a positive relationship with the FTA in this way.
3. Cash Flow Optimization
Maintaining appropriate cash flow is one of the key concerns and, in fact, the goal of any organization, and VAT has a significant impact on this. Consulting firms for VAT in Dubai assist you in optimizing your cash flow by suggesting effective VAT recovery strategies. This is crucial for a company that imports, exports or conducts substantial transactions.
They make sure your company is reporting VAT where it is due and that you are not overpaying. Additionally, the audit & assurance consultant UAE may help you organize your transactions to minimize your VAT duty and optimize recovery, which will improve the cash flow of your company.
4. VAT Strategies Tailored to Suit Your Business
A one-size-fits-all strategy for VAT compliance can be incredibly ineffective because every organization is different. Professional VAT consultancy in Dubai takes the time to understand your company's operations, sector, and unique requirements. Based on that information, it then offers customized solutions that are suited to the VAT needs of your business.
A reputable audit & assurance consultant in UAE will assist you in aligning your tax tactics with your business goals, regardless of how big or small your company is. This will include efficient supply chain management for VAT, efficient tax planning, and tailored solutions for international transactions.
5. Focus on Core Business Functions
It takes a lot of effort to manage VAT compliance internally, which takes resources from the main operation. It takes a lot of effort and experience to file VAT, understand the new rules, and guarantee that tax returns are accurate. In this situation, it is preferable to hire experts to handle the VAT compliance job rather than using your own internal resources so that you may concentrate on the expansion of your company.
All compliance issues, from filing returns to providing advice on complex tax issues, can be handled by these VAT consultants. You will no longer have to worry about VAT compliance, freeing you up to concentrate on market share growth, client acquisition, and innovation.
Conclusion
VAT compliance is a different story when it comes to companies in Dubai because it’s integral to be able to compete in the global market. Accounting firms in Abu Dhabi may help you remain compliant with all the tax regulations, avoid such expensive pitfalls and ensure business processes’ smooth running. Thus, the correct management of VAT, risk minimization, and increased cash flow is critical to sustain and develop your company in the context of the relatively high rate of competition in Dubai.

On 28th April 2025, Federal Tax Authority (FTA) have issued VAT public clarification (TAXP042) on value of supply under Barter Transactions
Barter Transactions: Taxable persons receive monetary consideration for the supplies they make but consideration may also be received in the form of goods or services, i.e. non-monetary consideration. Transactions which involve the exchange of goods and/or services, are known as barter transactions.
Barter transactions involve at least two supplies, i.e. each party makes a supply to the other. Such supplies are subject to the general VAT rules, nevertheless, special valuation rules apply
Public clarification TAXP042: Underlying clarification explains the principles to determine the value of supply for the non-monetary part of the consideration. The following principles apply
The market value of a supply of goods or services is the monetary consideration the supply would generally achieve if supplied in similar circumstances at that date in the UAE, being a supply freely made between persons who are not connected in any manner
Where the market value could not be determined as per principle 1 above, the market value is the monetary consideration which a similar supply would achieve if supplied in similar circumstances at that date in the UAE, being a supply freely offered and made between persons who are not connected in any manner.
Where the market value could not be determined as per principles 1 and 2 above, the market value shall be determined by reference to the replacement cost of identical goods or services, with such supply being offered by a supplier who is not connected to the recipient of goods or recipient of services in any manner
Example: A consulting firm and IT firm, which are registrants, enter into a barter agreement, as per the following:
IT firm will provide software’s like ERP, HR worth AED 35,000
Consulting firm will provide auditing services worth AED 15,000 and Balance AED 20,000 in cash
VAT Treatment
In the above example, IT firm should raise Tax invoice for AED 35,000 inclusive of VAT to consulting firm
Consulting firm should raise Tax invoice for AED 15,000 inclusive of VAT to IT firm
Key take aways:
VAT treatment/Law implication should be done for each leg of the transaction
Taxable person should not net off the transactions i.e as mentioned in the example IT firm should not raise invoice for AED 20,000 (inclusive of VAT) net off the services received from consulting firm
Both the parties in the barter transaction should raise tax invoice for the services/goods provided by them to each other.
Value of a supply needs to be as per the principle mentioned in the public clarification.

Introduction
As cross-border services become increasingly common, it’s essential for UAE-based businesses to understand how Value Added Tax (VAT) applies when receiving services from suppliers located outside the UAE. The Federal Tax Authority (FTA) has issued a Public Clarification to shed light on how to handle Concerned Services—that is, services received from abroad that are taxable if supplied within the UAE.
In this blog, we explore the obligations of VAT-registered persons regarding:
Accounting for Output Tax
Issuing Tax Invoices
Recovering Input Tax
Concerned Services refer to services imported from outside the UAE where the place of supply is considered to be within the UAE under VAT law. These are typically professional, advisory, or digital services—unless they would be VAT-exempt if supplied locally.
If you’re a VAT-registered business (a Registrant) in the UAE receiving such services, you are considered to be making a taxable supply to yourself under the reverse charge mechanism.
When you receive Concerned Services, you must account for Output Tax as if you supplied the services to yourself. This Output Tax is reported in Box 3 of your VAT return for the relevant tax period.
Key Rule: You are responsible for calculating and reporting VAT on the value of the imported service—even though the supplier is located outside the UAE.
Under UAE VAT Law, any Registrant making a taxable supply must issue a valid Tax Invoice within 14 days of the supply. That includes self-supplied Concerned Services under the reverse charge mechanism.
However, the FTA allows an administrative exception:
If you retain the invoice issued by the foreign supplier, and that invoice:
Includes the necessary details (names, addresses, date, description, consideration),
Reflects the full value and nature of the service, and
You account for the Output Tax correctly in your VAT return,
Then you are not required to issue a separate Tax Invoice to yourself.
In special cases (e.g., reinsurance), if no invoice is issued, a combination of documents showing the above details may suffice.
Yes, you can—but only if certain conditions are met. You may recover the Input Tax on Concerned Services only if:
The services are used to make taxable supplies;
You are VAT registered in the UAE;
You retain proper documentation, including the invoice issued by the overseas supplier;
You have paid or intend to pay the supplier within six months of the agreed payment date.
Timing: Input Tax can be recovered in the tax period in which you receive the invoice and make the payment, or in the immediately following tax period.
To remain compliant and eligible for Input Tax recovery, ensure you retain:
Invoice from the foreign supplier
Evidence of payment (or intent to pay)
VAT return entries (including Output Tax under reverse charge)
Any additional correspondence or agreements
If the service would be exempt from VAT had it been supplied in the UAE (e.g., some financial or educational services), no Output Tax or Input Tax applies.
If the supplier fails to issue an invoice and you don’t have sufficient documentation, you must request an administrative exception from the FTA.
Failing to self-account for VAT on imported services may lead to penalties and disallowance of Input Tax.
Understanding the reverse charge mechanism and related documentation requirements is crucial for VAT-registered businesses importing services into the UAE. By proactively issuing (or retaining) proper invoices and accounting for Output Tax, businesses can legally recover Input Tax and remain fully compliant with the UAE VAT framework.

The imposition of Corporate Tax Planning in the UAE starting from June 2023 has, in a major way, changed the financial-business structure for every Emirate, including Dubai, Ras Al Khaimah, and Abu Dhabi. To succeed amidst these new regulations, one needs more than just accounting: in fact, one needs corporate tax planning Dubai. Therefore, hiring the Best Corporate Tax Consultants in UAE has become an absolute must for ensuring compliance, tax optimization, and sustainable growth.
In a nutshell, comprehensive corporate tax planning Dubai entails a wide bucket of services that are rendered to allow businesses to assess, comply with, and strategically manage their respective tax issues. These services would normally and preferably include:
Corporate Tax Impact Assessment and Advisory:
Prior to effecting any change, specialist consultants carry out a comprehensive study of the business environment, financial statements, and structures to determine what direct impact the new Corporate Tax Law may have. In this process, they ascertain whether a business comes under the purview of the tax, consider the tax rates (0% for taxable income up to AED 375,000 and 9% thereafter), and check the candidate for any reliefs or exemptions (such as Small Business Relief and Free Zone Person). These consultants, known as the Best Corporate Tax Consultants in Dubai, offer advice most suitable to the implementation of the law for your industry and business model.
Corporate Tax Registration and Deregistration:
All taxable persons are supposed to register for Corporate Tax with the Federal Tax Authority (FTA) and obtain a Tax Registration Number (TRN). Consultants assist businesses throughout this paramount registration process, ensuring that all necessary documentation (trade license, identity documents, company incorporation documents) are duly submitted, and deadlines are met. They also partake in assisting taxpayers with deregistration should the business cease to operate or cease to meet the requirements for taxable income. Such basic service is offered by the Best Corporate Tax Consultants Situated in Ras-Al Khaimah and across the UAE.
Taxable Income Calculation and Adjustments to Financial Statements:
The calculation of taxable income in the new regime requires some adjustments on the accounting income, which normally are obtained from the financial statements prepared under accepted accounting standards (such as IFRS). Tax consultants instruct businesses regarding allowable deductions, non-deductible expenses, and other adjustments necessary for arriving at the correct taxable base, usually providing advice in areas of depreciation, related party transactions, and anti-abuse rules.
Corporate Tax Return Filing and Compliance:
This key service entails preparing and submitting Corporate Tax returns meticulously and accurately before the stipulated deadlines to the FTA. Consultants ensure that all required supporting documents are in place and that the tax returns are filed as per the Federal Decree-Law. The consultants also assist with record-keeping to ensure audit readiness and represent the taxpayer in answering any queries from the FTA. Engagement of such experts from the Best Corporate Tax Consultants in Abu Dhabi will guarantee that your tax filings will be done flawlessly and on time.
Transfer Pricing Documentation and Advisory:
Ever since transfer pricing regulations were promulgated, transfer pricing laws must grant that transactions between associated enterprises or persons or related parties be valued at arm’s length. Experts would analyse transactions, prepare documentation to support transfer pricing, and provide policy advice in alignment with UAE transfer pricing legislation so that such activities could further reduce monetary penalty risks.
Tax Dispute Resolution and Audit Support:
In case you must face a tax audit or any dispute with the FTA, the corporate tax planning Dubai services take care of representing your business and providing complete support. Your consultants will be guiding you throughout an audit, assist you in drafting replies to FTA queries, and in preparing any appeal, should you so want, so that your business will be able to face any kind of scrutiny.
Professional corporate tax planning has become extremely important in an ever-changing tax environment in the UAE.
Ensuring Compliance and Penalty Avoidance-The most immediate benefit is of outright compliance with the new Corporate Tax Law. Non-compliance would entail very heavy administrative penalties which adversely affect either the financial standing or reputation of the concerned business. These experts like the Best Corporate Tax Consultants in UAE consultants keep companies in the loop on always changing regulations, thereby lessening violations.
Optimizing Tax Liabilities: Keeping in view the strategic tax planning, it is not just equally to being compliant; it is to also legally reduce your tax burden. The consultants make the most of all deductions, reliefs, and incentives in the law (such as Free Zone incentives, tax grouping, restructuring relief) to improve your tax position and ultimately increase your net profit after tax.
Risk Mitigation: An effective proactive tax management will identify and mitigate potential tax risks, thus shielding businesses from unplanned financial liabilities. This includes determining whether certain transactions would have any tax consequences and generally ensuring strong internal controls.
Strategic Decision-Making: From strategic choices in investments, expansions, restructuring, or allocation of resources, the tax issues involved form a major part of considerations for companies. This leads to a path for financial sustainability and gradual growth.
Concentrating on Primary Business Activities: Businesses can contract out complicated tax matters to free internal resources and concentrate on operations, thereby improving efficiency and productivity.
In conclusion, with the evolution of the tax system in the UAE, more than ever, businesses need thorough corporate tax planning services to prosper. With seasoned professionals by their side, companies can gain not only compliance but also a competitive edge in the market – Dubai, Ras Al Khaimah, Abu Dhabi, or anywhere else in the UAE.
As part of the UAE’s evolving tax framework, the Federal Tax Authority (FTA) has released detailed guidance on the tax treatment of Family Foundations under the Corporate Tax Law (Federal Decree-Law No. 47 of 2022). This is a significant development for high-net-worth families, estate planners, and legal advisors seeking to manage wealth across generations while remaining compliant with UAE tax laws.
A Family Foundation, as defined in the Corporate Tax Law, refers to any foundation, trust, or similar entity established for the benefit of specific individuals or public benefit entities. It is primarily used for asset protection, succession planning, and charitable giving. Importantly, it can be domestically or internationally established, as long as it meets the criteria under Article 17(1) of the Corporate Tax Law.
These entities are often formed under free zones like DIFC, ADGM, or RAK ICC, or in foreign jurisdictions, and can apply to be treated as Unincorporated Partnerships for tax purposes—making them fiscally transparent.
To benefit from fiscal transparency and be excluded from corporate tax as an entity, the foundation must meet all of the following conditions:
1. Beneficiary Condition: Must benefit identified or identifiable natural persons or public benefit entities.
2. Principal Activity Condition: Must only receive, hold, invest, and manage assets associated with savings or investment.
3. No Business Activity: Must not conduct business that would otherwise be taxable if undertaken directly by an individual.
4. No Tax Avoidance Purpose: Its formation and activities must not be driven primarily by tax avoidance.
5. Distribution Condition: If a public benefit entity is a beneficiary, certain income must either be exempt or distributed within six months after the tax year.
When successfully registered as a fiscally transparent Unincorporated Partnership, the foundation itself is not subject to corporate tax. Instead, its income and expenses are attributed to its beneficiaries based on their interest.
For natural person beneficiaries, this typically results in no corporate tax liability, provided the income qualifies as personal investment or real estate investment income. In other words, it allows families to consolidate and protect wealth without incurring unnecessary corporate taxation, assuming they operate within the legal framework.
Multi-Tiered Structures and Foreign Foundations
The guide also clarifies that multi-tier structures—where a Family Foundation wholly owns other juridical entities—can also apply for fiscal transparency, provided each entity in the chain meets the requirements under the law.
Even foreign Family Foundations with a UAE nexus (e.g., owning real estate in the UAE) can register and apply for tax-transparent treatment if compliant with Article 17(1). This ensures alignment with international tax rules while preserving local compliance.
Key Takeaways for Families and Advisors
A Family Foundation can be an effective tool for managing intergenerational wealth if properly structured under UAE Corporate Tax Law.
Applying for Unincorporated Partnership status is essential to benefit from tax transparency.
Tax implications arise at the beneficiary level, with natural persons usually exempt.
Early compliance with registration and annual confirmation requirements is critical to avoid penalties and maintain transparency status.
Final Thoughts
The new Corporate Tax rules around Family Foundations strike a balance between regulatory oversight and wealth management flexibility. They offer families an opportunity to structure their affairs efficiently—but only if the foundation is structured and maintained in strict accordance with Article 17.
If you’re a family office, legal advisor, or private client practitioner, now is the time to review your structure and ensure you’re making the most of the options available under the UAE’s Corporate Tax regime.

On Apr 14th of 2025, Federal Tax Authority (FTA) have issued VAT public clarification (VATP041) on VAT implication on Swift Message replacing the previous VATP036. UAE Banks and exchange houses (“Financial Institutions” or “FI”) FI incur international bank charges from banks outside the UAE as a result of using the Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunications (“SWIFT”) communication system with these banks.
The provision of the right to use the SWIFT communication service constitutes a Service for VAT purposes.where such Service is received from outside the UAE, it constitutes a Concerned Service for UAE VAT purposes and covered under RCM on import of services. Financial Institutions that are registered for VAT in the UAE are required to issue and deliver an original Tax Invoice to the recipient of taxable services supplied by the Financial Institution. Since the Financial Institution is regarded as supplying the Concerned Service to itself, it is required to issue a valid Tax Invoice to itself in respect of each SWIFT transaction for which it incurs interbank charges.
However, Article 59(7)(b) of the Executive Regulation provides that, where there are (or will be) sufficient records available to establish the particulars of any supply or class of supplies, and it would be impractical to require the issuance of a Tax Invoice by the Registrant, the FTA may determine that a Tax Invoice is not required to be issued in certain cases. Therefore, with VATP041 FTA have recognized the impracticality for FI to issue tax invoices in respect of each SWIFT message and the SWIFT Message will be accepted as a sufficient record to establish the particulars of the supply provided following information is there in the SWIFT message
Name and address of the bank outside the UAE (SWIFT sender/supplier).
Name of the UAE Financial Institution receiving the Service (SWIFT receiver/customer).
Date of the transaction.
SWIFT Message reference number.
Transaction reference number.
Description of the transaction.
Consideration charged and currency used.
Key Points/take aways
Public clarification (VATP041) is only for FI not for all other taxable person.
As the underlying clarification is only for FI, all other taxable person should raise tax invoice to itself for all the import of goods or services.
If the taxable person not raising the tax invoice for import of goods or services, they should apply for private clarification for administrative exception for not raising tax invoice for import of goods or services.

On Jan 14th of 2025, Federal Tax Authority (FTA) have issued VAT public clarification (VATP039) on VAT implication on Crypto Currency Mining. As we all witnessing rise of popularity of crypto currency, FTA have given the clarification on the VAT treatment on Crypto currency mining.
Crypto mining is the process by which individuals or businesses use specialized equipment, known as mining rigs, to validate blockchain transactions and earn cryptocurrency rewards. The tax treatment of these activities in the UAE depends on whether the mining is done for personal use or as a service provided to others. Here’s an overview of how VAT applies to crypto mining in the UAE:
Mining for a person’s own account: When a person mines cryptocurrency for their own account, person is not guaranteed a reward if he successfully solves the cryptographic equation, as the reward does not solely depend on the person solving the equation, but also on being the first to solve it. As there is no direct exchange of goods or services, the activity is not considered a taxable supply under VAT. Consequently, any rewards received from mining activities are not subject to VAT.
Mining Services: If a person is mining cryptocurrency on behalf of another individual or business for a fee, this constitutes a taxable supply of services. The person performing the mining activity receives a consideration from the recipient, making it subject to VAT.
In most cases, this service will be taxed at the standard VAT rate, It could be zero-rated if the service is provided to a non-resident and the necessary conditions are met under UAE VAT law.
Mining Services Received: If a UAE business receives mining services from a non-resident person, RCM VAT will apply, if the UAE business registered for VAT and receive mining services from a Non resident person. if the customer is a UAE resident business and not VAT-registered, the non-resident supplier must register for VAT in the UAE and charge VAT on the services.
Input Tax Recovery: Individuals or businesses involved in crypto mining may incur VAT on their expenses, such as purchases of mining hardware, rent for commercial space, utilities, and maintenance services. If mining is done for personal use, the incurred VAT on these costs cannot be recovered since the activity is not a taxable supply. However, if mining is conducted as a service for others, the VAT on expenses can be recovered, provided the person is VAT-registered and retains proper documentation such as tax invoices.
