The North Wales Bluegrass Festival ran annually for 28 years, from 1989 through to 2016
Operational Timeline & History
In 1989 the festival was established by John Prytherch, but after a few years having been joined by the long term organizers, Gill Williams and John Les Pritchard, he took his leave of the festival.
Its location had rotated around multiple North Wales locations, including Abergele and Trefriw. [1, 2, 3]
From 1995 to 2016 the event moved permanently to the historic town of Conwy, operating there for its final 21 consecutive years. The main festival hub was located at Bodlondeb Park, utilizing the Conwy Civic Hall and an onsite marquee. [1, 2, 4, 5]
In 2017 the event was officially canceled. The closure of Conwy's Civic Hall in 2014 had driven up operational costs, and subsequent council construction work in the park restricted necessary camping space. [1, 2]
By 2018 The organizers announced a permanent cessation of the event after local council funding and logistical support were no longer available. [1]
