When Should An Endodontist Treat A Sinus Infection?
The specialists at Ayik + Berto Endodontics, formerly known as The Endodontics Group, Inc.,acknowledge the fact that certain dental infections and sinusitis or sinus disease are interrelated. The identification of MSEO or maxillary sinusitis of Endodontic Origin is extremely important since the failure to do so may result in the persistence of sinusitis. Additionally, inadequate endodontics treatments in Frisco of sinusitis could lead to the development of more severe and even life-threatening infections. Although MSEO is a relatively common disease process, it refers specifically to a sinus condition caused by an endodontic infection.
Common Symptoms of MSEO
The diagnosis of MSEO can be somewhat challenging in that patients suffering with this condition can experience a broad range of dental and sinus-related symptoms, or, in some cases, they do not exhibit any symptoms. The more common symptoms of MSEO include bad breath, congestion, facial or jaw pain, and rhinorrhea (mucus discharge). However, the more common endodontic symptoms such as sensitivity, sinus drainage, and swelling are not always present in theMSEO casesat our Ayik + BertoEndodontics of Frisco, formerly known as The Endodontics Group, Inc. office.
MSEO Treatment Objectives
When treating MSEO cases at our office, we remove the pathogenic microorganisms as well as their by-products and any pulp debris in the root canal system that is causing the infection and prevent re-infection from occurring. Sinusitis symptoms can be relieved temporarily with antibiotic therapy. However, this is usually unwarranted when treating MSEO and is ineffective as a treatment solution.
