UNIT 5:Conventional and Digital Learning Materials that Enhance Teaching and Learning

Unit 5 discusses the traditional and modern learning materials used variously in different subjects. Research by Ajoke (2017) strengthened the idea that instructional materials in learning and teaching are essential in achieving better outcomes in the learning process. These materials, when used appropriately, make the learning process more exciting and more effective, thus, resulting in positive outcomes.

The unit has incorporated essential areas to increase our knowledge about these learning materials further; Roles of Instructional Materials in Teaching and Learning and Factors to Consider in Developing Instructional Materials, Conventional Instruction Materials, and Digital Learning Resources. Detailed instruction and a guide in creating or using a certain material were also provided in this unit, making it very useful for future educators like us.

We have always been fascinated by our former teachers every time they use creative visual aids in the class. So far, based on the following materials listed in Unit 5, we have encountered at least five instructional materials, and we can say that these were all utilized efficiently. Creating instructional materials has been one of the things that excite us to become a teacher because creativity and imagination are practiced.

In this unit, we have created infographics and an evaluation of the lesson plan. We have seen the importance of incorporating technology in the teaching-learning process with those activities. Modern technology is not bad. Just the right use of such makes it a great strategy to achieve outstanding results in learning. Moreover, as other studies claim that enjoyment can be beneficial, innovation of instructional materials would be one of our goals as teachers. With that, as modern-day students, we suggest using different materials in teaching to enhance the students’ learning experiences within the classroom. Being a teacher is about voicing out information that our students would have to learn. Still, it also takes creativity and making sure that students feel motivated to learn more effectively through these materials. This is made possible with the help of the different traditional and digital materials in teaching.
