As we continue to embrace change and accept the expansion of technology for teaching and learning in our education system, there are various responsibilities a teacher needs to consider. Unit 3 is centered on the social, ethical, and legal obligations in using technology tools and resources by teachers. As future educators, we have to be equipped with the necessary skills, knowledge, and literacy so that learning can take place effectively. This third unit of our subject, PCK126, highlights the importance of ensuring safety in virtual education, where learning with technology can be made safe for both the teacher and learner.
Under this unit, we were tasked to complete a chapter quiz to assess what we’ve learned regarding Digital Citizenship, Intellectual Property Rights, Fair Use, Digital Safety Rules, Cyberbullying, or Netiquette. After taking the quiz, we are reminded to be mindful of our roles and responsibilities as global digital citizens who are using digital technologies effectively, not misusing them for the disadvantage of others. Moreover, it also validated our knowledge and understanding of how to manifest acceptance and the recognition of norms of appropriate and responsible behavior concerning the use of technology to uphold a healthy interaction in cyberspace.
Our membership in the virtual community requires that we behave appropriately and act responsibly, and as student-teachers, we are advocates of this. While we continue to learn more about the netiquettes and legal responsibilities concerning the complexity of the internet as future educators, we are establishing knowledge and consciousness to safeguard the younger generation in the future.
