Annaleigh is among the 12 sisters that live in a manor by the sea, Highmoor. Their lives have been heavily sheltered since four of her sisters have mysteriously had their lives cut short and many families in the surrounding area believe that there is a curse on the family. Annaleigh is plagued by visions of ghosts and hauntings and begins to believe that her sisters' deaths contained foul play. "Her sisters have been sneaking out every night to attend glittering balls, dancing until dawn in silk gowns and shimmering slippers, and Annaleigh isn't sure whether to try to stop them or to join their forbidden trysts."

I have been obsessed with House of Salt and Sorrows for years and love to read it around Halloween. I am not easily scared, but I definitely slept with my lights on for a few nights when reading this book. I was entranced by the idea that is was essentially a retelling of the 12 Dancing Princesses (which was my favorite Barbie movie growing up). This was a five star read for me!
