Research Question: What is the overall environmental quality of the East River and how do certain pollutants affect said quality?
Introduction
In order to understand the issues that the East River faces it is important to conduct research on the environmental quality of the river. Researching environmental factors such as suspended solids, bacteria and microplastic pollution is essential for better understanding the health and quality of any marine or aquatic environment. Other factors such as dissolved oxygen, pH or temperature can also indicate the health of an aquatic environment.
Maps of research sites
Research was conducted on a variety of environmental factors including microplastics, dissolved oxygen, bacteria and suspended solids. Water samples, dissolved oxygen readings and a fish specimen were collected from varying points along the river.
