Dr. Cheryl A. Ackerman
Dr. Ackerman has been a registered clinical psychologist since 1989, having graduated with a Hons. Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Toronto and a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from York University. Before co-founding the Developmental Clinic in 1995, Dr. Ackerman was the psychologist for intensive programmes at the Griffin Centre where she worked with dual diagnosed adolescents (developmental disability and mental health diagnosis or behavioural challenges).
She has published several articles in the area of anxiety and, as a stepparent herself, has a particular interest in blended families. Dr. Ackerman supervises psychological and psychoeducational assessments for children, teens and university/college students. In addition, she practices psychodynamic therapy and is trained in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). She is also highly skilled in parenting approaches, individual and family therapy as well as marital/relationship issues. As the director of The Developmental Clinic, Dr. Ackerman does her best to ensure that your experience with us will be both comfortable and rewarding.
Joy Koplowitz
Joy has been in the field of education counselling over 35 years and has provided services to a variety of public and private schools. She works under the supervision of a Registered Psychologist in administering assessments and helping individuals identify their learning needs so that they can achieve their potential. She is experienced in administering a wide variety of psychometric testing and in partnership with the psychologist, is adept at tailoring the assessments to suit the needs of individuals.
Joy has also been involved in helping schools develop educational interventions and supports to promote student growth and success. She approaches individuals with care and empathy, and it is important to her that individuals set realistic educational/career goals for themselves in consideration of their individual strengths and areas of need.
Michelle Ladd
Michelle graduated from University of Toronto with an M.A. in Psychology, and has over 20 years of experience in psychological testing and psychotherapy. Prior to joining us, Michelle worked at the Hospital for Sick Children in clinical research, as well as other hospital, family health and community settings.
In our clinic, Michelle has been administering psychoeducational and personality assessments, but additionally providing therapy for children, adults and families, customizing treatment to their particular needs. She employs a variety of therapeutic techniques, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), play therapy, as well as mindfulness and somatically based interventions, to help her clients develop effective strategies in order to meet their existing challenges.
Debbie Meadows
Debbie has been in the public service/administrative industry for over 40 years, including pharmacy and information technology settings. She brings to her position a wealth of experience in public relations and the ability to relate to clients in a friendly, empathic and efficient manner. She has the gift of making people instantly comfortable when they walk through our door for the first time.
