She is the kind of worker who keeps a place running in ways most people never see, which includes balancing numbers in the morning and balancing people by the afternoon. She’ll tell you she likes her job, not because it’s easy, but because she’s finally found a boss who listens and a workplace that feels steady under her feet. And even when the new projects pile up or the complaints land on her desk, she has learned the quiet truth at the heart of human resources: Most folks don’t need a miracle…just someone willing to hear them out.
Almost everyone has a job. Some people love their jobs, others can’t stand theirs. I would say that I like mine. I am an accountant for a small company. I am also the human resources person at my job.
My day typically starts around 7:00 in the morning. I wake up, and I do everything I need to do to get ready for work. I leave my house at 8:30 to drop off my kid at work. After I drop her off, I head into work and start at around 9:00. There is a lot of stuff I enjoy about my job. One example is having a good boss. The bosses at my other jobs were not very good, but I like the culture we have at my current job. However, there are also a couple of challenges. One challenge in particular is that new projects I have to do require different skillsets. An example of this is that new contracts require multiple resources for me to complete the work. Another challenge is that, since I am in human resources, sometimes people come to me to complain about non-work-related things. However, working in human resources taught me the valuable lesson that sometimes people just want to be heard.
