Joining our staff team
Hello and welcome to the official TCOF form for those wishing to become a TCOF staff member! We are so happy to hear that you are interested in serving as a staff member with us. To become a staff member, there are some certain steps you will have to take. This form will be laid out to provide useful information in every step of the application process. Thanks for reading!
Section 1: Applying for staff
It’s great to hear that you want to apply! However, there are certain ways to apply for a staff position and certain ways to “not”, so here is the correct way to show your interest in becoming a staff member.
First off, please NEVER ask for staff in the club notes or chat. Simply asking for staff absent mindedly in the notes will not get you the position, as we are looking for people who are invested in the position and willing to take some time to make a legitimate application.
The correct way to apply for a staff position is to directly message one of the TCOF Super Admins, @CDRED141 or @hughienews. Please message us saying that you are interested in becoming a staff member and we can advise you from there. Thanks!
Section 2: Your “interview”
Once you have messaged us showing interest in a staff position, the next step for you is answering questions about how you will help the club, your background with club administrating, why you are interested in the position, etc. Lots of times when interviewing, people give us one word answers and answers that are clearly not thought out well. When we get those answers, it shows us that you are not invested in the position and you are trying to get the interview over with. That will severely decrease our chances of giving you the position. So, please take the time to properly and thoroughly write out your answers to our questions. It goes a long way.
Section 3: Our decision
Once you have completed the application and your interview, we will decide whether to promote you or not. If you are promoted, congratulations! If you are not, we want to remind you not to take it personally and remember that sometimes we have to make decisions that may seem mean for the sake of the club. If you don’t understand why you weren’t accepted, you are welcome to kindly and respectfully inquire and we will do our best to let you know why you were denied. Thanks!
Section 4: The “climb the ladder” system
In TCOF, we have a policy that says any staff may not be promoted more than one level at one time. For instance, a member could not go to admin without serving any time as a coordinator, and a coordinator could not go to Super Admin without serving any time as an admin. This is done so that the people with the most seniority and experience in our club make it to the top before others with less experience. With that in mind, please don’t ask in your application to be made admin or Super Admin without serving as a coordinator first.
Section 5: Demotions
Nobody wants to be demoted, we understand that. However, we do have rules for the staff here, (which you will learn more about after being promoted) and if these rules are broken we may have to demote you. Again, please don’t take this action personally. Everything we do here is for the best interest of the club, and if you are demoted please know that we have discussed and come to a rational decision about how to handle a certain situation. If you think you were unfairly demoted, you are welcome to calmly, kindly, and respectfully message any TCOF Super Admin about your demotion to gain more information. Thank you for understanding our position!
So, there you have it! Thanks again from all of us here at TCOF staff for your interest in joining us to help run what we consider to be the best and most successful club on chess.com! We hope that this form has helped you understand our hiring process better, and that you can use this information to start your journey towards TCOF staff!
With any questions about any of these subjects, please never hesitate to message any of the TCOF Super Admins to clear them up. Thank you!
