Artist Statement

The focus of my work is the exploration of personal mythology as it is influenced by ancient legend and contemporary lore. I am moved by heavy objects of reverence and began carving stone in 2002 to try to understand this archaic art form. There is a certain authority to working with stone that I find intriguing- a decisiveness and a directness in translating idea to object in durable materials. We are temporary creatures and carving stone is an act of faith in an unknown future where stone sculptures survive as messages to an unborn generation.
