The Chinese School of Greater Kansas City is a non-profit, educational institution that offers Mandarin Chinese language classes and cultural activities from preschool age to adults. Currently, we have more than 100 students enrolled in the Chinese School of Greater Kansas City Foundation. 

Organization

The Chinese School was founded in 1973. The school consists of the Board of Directors, PTC members, and administration. All the current student families are the general members of the PTC, and the PTC members elect the board members. The seven members of the Board of Directors supervise the school administration and decide major policies. The administration staff manages the routine operations and is formed by the parent volunteers.

Curriculum

The school meets on Sunday afternoon for fall semester and spring semester. See Calendar for specific dates.

For ages 5 and above, we offer two tracks of Chinese language learning from 1:30-3:45pm.

• Chinese Heritage classes - (Zhuyin, Level 1 to Level 10)

• Chinese as Foreign Language (CFL) classes - (Basic, CFL 1 to CFL 10) and Adult conversation class

The learning materials are ordered through Taipei Economic & Cultural Office. Chinese Heritage classes use textbooks 美洲華語 MeiZhou , Chinese Foreign Language classes use textbooks 學華語向前走 Let's Learn Chinese.

After language classes from 3:45-4:45pm, the school also offers a variety of cultural activities (Extra-curricular classes), such as Chinese yo-yo, Fusion Dance, Go board game and Taekwondo.

We also offer Preschool Sing and Dance class for ages 3 to 5 years old from 3:45-4:45pm. It will be children's nursery songs in Chinese, giving a fun introduction to learning Chinese for the little ones.

課程簡介

大堪薩斯市中文學校現約有一百多位學生。

正規班的對象是已懂中文，老師以中文授課，使用注音及繁體字，是大堪薩斯市地區唯一教授繁體中文的學校，中高年級亦加入簡體字介紹。使用的教材為僑務委員會補助的「美洲華語」。

外語班則是針對完全不懂或略懂中文的兒童和成人設立的，使用漢語拼音，偏重會話練習。因應全球華語為第二語言的教學趨勢及學習需求，使用的教材為僑務委員會邀集具豐富海外華語教學經驗的學者專家及資深華語教師共同編訂的「學華語向前走」。

語文課後更有精彩有趣的課外活動，目前有扯鈴、融合舞蹈、圍棋、跆拳道，還有幼幼唱跳班是專門為三至五歲精心設計的 。
