CESAR CHAVES
Cesar was the most notable activist for the Chicano movement. Cesar has been honored for his efforts in several ways. He received the Presidential Medal of Freedom for his nonviolent approach. Additionally, Cesar has a National Monument, Libraries, Schools, Parks, Streets, and even a United States Naval Ship named after him.
DELORES HUERTA
Delores co-founded the United Farm Workers Association and Community Service Organization (CSO). Delores is one of the most influential activists of the Chicano movement. Delores organized strikes and fought for economic improvement for Chicanos.
REIES TIJERINA
Founded La Alianza Federal de Mercedes (The Federal Land Grant Alliance) in 1953 and fought to reclaim land taken from Angle settlers in violation of the 1848 Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo. Reies was infamously known as “King Tiger” and was referred to as the “Malcolm X of the Chicano Movement’’.
JOSE ANGEL GUTIERREZ
Founded Mexican American Youth Organization (MAYO) and La Raza Unida. Jose advocated for Chicanos in Texas and other southern states.
