PRIVACY POLICY — THE BUTTON
Last updated: October 17, 2026
"The Button" (the Game) is made by Start Over Studios ("we", "us"). This page explains what data the Game handles, why, and what you can do about it.
SUMMARY
- No account, no sign-up, no name or email. We run no servers of our own.
- Your progress is saved only on your device.
- The Game uses Google services: AdMob for ads, Firebase for usage statistics, crash reports, remote settings and optional notifications, and Google Play Billing for the optional Remove Ads purchase. These services collect some data from your device, described below.
- The Game asks for no sensitive permissions: no location, camera, microphone or contacts.
DATA STORED ON YOUR DEVICE
Your game progress and settings (credits, upgrades, essence, sound and vibration choices, chosen language) are saved in the app's private storage. A local log of game events is kept there too. None of this leaves your device except as described below. "Reset progress" in Settings erases it, and so does uninstalling the app.
USAGE STATISTICS (FIREBASE ANALYTICS)
To understand how the Game is played and balance it better, the Game sends events such as "upgrade bought", "reboot completed" or "ad watched", together with where you are in the game (run number, level) and the language the Game is shown in. Firebase adds technical information: an app instance identifier, device model, operating system version, app version, device language and approximate country (derived from your IP address). These statistics are not linked to your name or to any account.
CRASH REPORTS (FIREBASE CRASHLYTICS)
If the Game crashes or hits an error, Crashlytics sends a report with the technical details of the problem, device information, and the game state at that moment (screen open, level, run number, language). We use these reports only to fix bugs.
REMOTE SETTINGS AND NOTIFICATIONS (FIREBASE)
Firebase Remote Config lets us adjust some settings without an update (for example, whether a video plays after a REBOOT). If you allow notifications, Firebase Cloud Messaging stores a device token so we can occasionally send a notification about the Game. You can turn notifications off at any time in Android's settings.
ADVERTISING (GOOGLE ADMOB)
The Game shows ads from Google AdMob: a banner, an optional video you may choose to watch for a 2x boost, and a video after a REBOOT (the banner and the REBOOT video are removed by the Remove Ads purchase). To select and measure ads, Google collects information directly from your device, such as the Android advertising ID, device information, IP address and your interactions with ads. In the European Economic Area, the UK and Switzerland you are asked for consent first, and you can change your choice at any time from Settings > Ad privacy choices. Google's use of this data is governed by its privacy policy (https://policies.google.com/privacy) and by how Google uses data from partner apps (https://policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites). We only receive aggregate reports, which do not identify you.
PURCHASES (GOOGLE PLAY BILLING)
The optional Remove Ads purchase is processed entirely by Google Play. We receive only the confirmation that it was bought; we never see your payment details.
SHARING AND RATING
Settings > Share opens Android's share menu with a message and the Game's Google Play link; you choose the app and the people, and we receive nothing about it. Settings > Rate us opens the Game's Google Play page. The Game also occasionally shows Google Play's in-app review card; your rating and review go to Google Play, and we never learn whether or how you rated.
YOUR CHOICES
- Limit ad personalization or reset your advertising ID in Android Settings > Google > Ads.
- Change your ad consent in the Game: Settings > Ad privacy choices (where it applies).
- Turn notifications off in Android's app settings.
- Erase your progress with Settings > Reset progress, or by uninstalling the app.
RETENTION AND YOUR RIGHTS
Statistics and crash reports are kept by Google for a limited period under the retention settings of our Firebase project, and are not tied to your identity. Depending on where you live (for example under Brazil's LGPD or the EU's GDPR), you may have the right to access, correct or delete data about you and to object to its processing. Because we hold no database of our own and no account links data to you, we can't look up individual records; write to us and we will help you with the Google tools that apply.
CHILDREN
The Game is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect data from them.
CHANGES
If this policy changes, the date at the top will be updated.
